The chess craze continues with an all new exciting version: Crazy House! Crazy House works like this: there are two teams and each play opposite color pieces and try to win the game. If you capture a piece of your opponents’ you give it to your partner. I don’t know how Crazy House came to be called Crazy House, but Kevin Gao brought it to Fenn. It is the newest fashion to play it at recess. It is incredibly fun. Now back to how you play it. Once you get pieces from your partner you can put them on the board, although not in the place of other pieces or to put your opponent in check. If the other person on your team wins, your team wins and the game is over. I can’t think of how boring our classroom would be without Crazy House. Here is a secret code: If you figure out what this means you win and you know the secret to chess. Hint: the language is Wingdings. William and Connor, signing off. Memories by Ethan and Liam Do you have a memory worth writing about? We are writing about our memories in class. One of Liam’s memories is having the first snowfall of the year and Christmas Eve was the next day. Ethan’s memory was when he couldn’t stop skiing at Bretton Woods. We started this project with a brainstorm of memories in our writing journal. Then we chouse our favorite memory and wrote about it in class and homework. Our goal is to get as many details down on paper as we can. Memories by Ethan and Liam

Do you have a memory worth writing about? We are writing about our memories in class. One of Liam’s memories is having the first snowfall of the year and Christmas Eve was the next day. Ethan’s memory was when he couldn’t stop skiing at Bretton Woods. We started this project with a brainstorm of memories in our writing journal. Then we chouse our favorite memory and wrote about it in class and homework. Our goal is to get as many details down on paper as we can. We should also have a clear beginning, middle, and end. We should be finished with the stories in two weeks. We will bring them home to share.

Warriors, Continued by Kiefer

Remember me? I recommended the series WARRIORS. The newest book came out over the Thanksgiving break. And I read it! Same cats, but Russetfur dies and Flametail drowns. But I’m not giving away any more! The name is Night Whispers

I Recommend a Book by Samuel

I highly recommend the book STICKY BURR by John Lechner because it has little creature called burrs which are covered with hooks. The main character Sticky Burr has friends named Mossy Burr and Dragonfly who always help him when he is in trouble. Mostly he is in trouble when the bad guy Scurvy Burr makes evil ideas. Scurvy Burr said that Sticky Burr should act more prickly and not play the ukulele and paint. Sticky Burr is a really funny book. P.S. It is a graphic novel.

America! by Paul and Max

What is the Western Meadowlark? Well, it is Wyoming’s state bird. I, Max, am studying Wyoming, and I, Paul, am studying Hawaii. We are writing ABC state books on states in the United States in social studies. A weird fact about Hawaii is that it is illegal to put a coin in your ear. David’s state is Oklahoma and Witt’s is…WEST VIRGINIA! For the book we go through the ABC’s and get a fact about our state for each letter and print/draw a picture for each fact. What is your favorite state?

Yucky Squid by Henry and Witt

Have you dissected any squids lately? Let me guess, NO. Well unlucky you, because we just dissected one! It is very yucky and smells terrible but it is very cool. Witt’s favorite part was when we cut the mantle and saw the organs, and Henry’s favorite part was when we took out the beak and esophagus. (The beak is what the squid uses to tear food apart). Now we will run you through the steps we did to dissect it. First we took out the eye lens by putting our finger under its lens and popping it out. Next we took out the beak by making a few small cuts around the buccal mass (cheek muscles) and then just yanking the beak out. Finally we cut open its mantle to see its organs and then removed the organs to take out the pen (the inner shell). It is time to wrap up, but we hope you’ll dissect one, too.
