The latest in Fenceman’s range of highly portable battery fencers is the B860. Big

brother to the extremely successful B430 the B860 features a Fast & Slow pulse rate

option as well as Day & Night modes. The B860 unit also comes Solar Ready.

With the introduction new European standards all energisers over 5 Joules output must have a time delay

function. Fenceman are pleased to announce the introduction of the mProtect which meets these new

regulations. In addition the mProtect will constantly monitor the fence increasing and decreasing power

as required. The mProtect’s alarm mode allows up to 10 minutes to clear obstacles from the fence while

power is reduced to under 5 Joules.

HOW DOES AN ELECTRIC FENCE WORK?An electric fence system consists of an energiser generating regular power impulses and one or several wires transporting the power, and insulated against the ground. The insulation is gained by using plastic insulators, which prevent the power from being branched off into the ground. The fourth component is the earthing of the energiser, which should be placed as deep as possible in the soil, where it is most moist.

When an animal comes intocontactwiththewireacircuitis closed; ie. the electric

current flows through the animal andthesoil,backtotheenergizer.Thustheanimal experiences an unpleasant (butharmless)electricshockandbacksaway.

Notethatitisnotobligatoryforafencetoforma‘loop’,andthatelectricfencingsystemsareusedforfencing-outaswellasfencing-in.

THE CORRECT EARTHING - OFTEN NEGLECTED ....

Nature shows us how to do it!A treespreads its roots to take water andnutrientsfromthesoil-thesameistruefortheearthing:ideally,itbranchesoffinalldirectionsandispositionedsolidlyandwithsafecontactinthesoil.

When an animal comes into contactwithanenergisedwire,thepowerflowsthrough the animal’s body into thegroundwhereearthingrodstakeupthepower- likerootstakeupwater-andconduct itbacktotheenergiserwherethe circuit is closed. If the earthing is

poor, thepowerwill ‘trickleaway’ intothe soil: it does not flow back to theenergiser,thereisnoclosedcircuit,andtheelectricfencedoesnotwork.

TEN TRUSTED RULES TO MAKE YOUR ELECTRIC FENCE WORK PROPERLY

1. Keep your fence as free from growth as possible

Growthimpairstheoutputofeverycommercialapplianceandresultsinincreasedpowerconsumption,especiallywithbattery-drivenappliances.

2. Make sure the earthing is optimal

Asdeepaspossible(minimum1metre/severalearthingrods/moist,overgrownsoil)

3. Do not connect two conductive plastic wires by tying them - use special connectors.

4. Fence wire/tape/rope must not be broken

5. Use conductive material

having the best possible conductivity

(ie.lowresistance)

6. Keep fence wire and earthing rod free from rust

7. Weather-beaten or nagged insulators are unsuitable

(causesahighlossofoutput)

8. Ensure connection between the energiser and wire is optimal

9. With battery-driven energisers, check battery condition regularly

10. Ensure that each point of the fence is carrying a minimum of 2,000 volts through use of a fence voltage tester.

When fencing very sturdy animalswe recommend a minimum of3,000 volts from a energizer ofmore than 0.5 joule. For safetyreasonswe recommend,however,nottoexceedadischargingenergyof5.0joules.
