Transcript of Females or Males. Guess how many? Who is better at estimating?
Purpose
• The purpose of this project is to determine who is better at estimating the unknown , males or females. This is important because we want to see if boy or girls thinking is better. We would know who to go to if we needed an estimate.
Hypothesis
We hypothesis that the girls will be better estimators than males. We believe this because in our class girls get better grades in math class.
Variables
Manipulated: females or males
Responding: estimates
Constant: object in the jar for each trial number of males and females estimates
size of the jar
Instructions
1. Count the candy. Write it some were estimators can’t find it.2. Place the candy in a jar.3. Have estimators estimate how number in the jar.4. Repeat steps 1-3 with snap cubes.5. Repeat step 1-3 with gram cubes. 6. Repeat step 1-3 with pencils.7. Repeat step 1-3 with Skittles. 8. Calculate the average of estimates(boys and girls).9.Calculate the average different between actual and average estimate.
Who is better?Males • In our first and second
trials, boys got closer to the real answer.
Females • In our third, fourth, fifth
trials, girls got closer to the real answer.

AVERAGE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ACTUAL AND ESTIMATE
CONCLUSION
Our hypothesis was incorrect. Males are better estimators than females. The average difference between the actual and the estimate for males was 75.62. The average difference between the actual and the estimate for females was 75.94. We repeated this investigation again we would ask more people to estimate.
