Training Opportunity: Safety Assessment Program (SAP) June 1, 2021 │9:00am-3:30pm CST

DESCRIPTION

Following large-scale disasters—such as tornadoes and earthquakes—there is a need

to assess buildings for safe occupancy and continued use. Critical facilities

(emergency operations centers, hospitals, shelters, etc.) are key to community recovery

and must be inspected for safety following a disaster. Likewise, individuals and

business owners will want to return to home, school, or work and need to know if their

buildings are safe to occupy. Local jurisdictions may not have the resources to

evaluate a large number of buildings in a short period of time.

This workshop will teach participants to conduct rapid damage assessments of structures affected by

earthquakes, wind, and water. Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to consistently

and safely assess structures for habitability and will receive a nationally recognized Cal OES

registration ID card from the state of California with successful completion of the final exam.

The program is managed by Cal OES with cooperation from professional organizations,

including the AIA. It utilizes volunteers and mutual aid resources to provide professional engineers,

architects and certified building inspectors to assist local governments in safety evaluations of their built

environment in the aftermath of a disaster. SAP is the training standard of the AIA Disaster

Assistance Program, which provides leadership, advocacy, and training to architects who are

interested in volunteering their professional skills in times of crisis.

TARGET AUDIENCE

Intended for licensed architects, engineers, or certified building inspectors; this course certifies attendees

as Building Evaluators in the nationally recognized Safety Assessment Program (SAP).

GENERAL INFORMATION

Date/Time: June 1, 2021 from 9:00AM – 3:30PM CST

FEMA 395, Earthquake Safety and

Mitigation for Schools

WEB-BASED TRAINING DESCRIPTION

School buildings in many states and U.S. territories are vulnerable to earthquake damage

that threatens safety and continued operations. This course teaches participants how to:

(1) assess and analyze seismic risks typical to school buildings; (2) develop actionable

plans for reducing and managing these risks; (3) secure nonstructural components in

school facilities; and (4) implement incremental seismic rehabilitation as an affordable

approach for protecting existing school buildings and ensuring occupant safety.

TARGET AUDIENCE

The target audience for this web-based training includes school officials, school

administrators, teachers, facility managers, engineers and other stakeholders interested

in reducing earthquake risks in school facilities.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Time: 12pm-3pm Central

Date: Thursday, June 3

FEMA P-767,

Earthquake Mitigation for Hospitals

WEB-BASED TRAINING DESCRIPTION

In this web-based training, participants are introduced to earthquake hazards in

health care settings and learn about methods that can be used to analyze and

reduce risks of damage in hospitals and other medical buildings. Such facilities

have unique nonstructural components, including equipment and infrastructure

systems that can become sources of injury or damage even during smaller

earthquakes. By implementing sound, cost-effective mitigation measures, health

care facilities can reduce seismic risks and ensure that, in the event of an

earthquake, they can remain in operation to serve their communities.

TARGET AUDIENCE

The target audience for this web-based training includes hospital facilities managers,

engineers, administrators, and other hospital personnel.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Time: Thursday, June 24

Date: 12pm-4pm Central

Location: Online (See “How to Register” section below)

Instructor: Michael Griffin, President, CCS Group, Inc.
