JOSÉ MOURINHO The CATHOLIC HERALD is reporting that Manchester United’s new manager, Jose Mourinho, is lending his voice to the character of Pope Francis in an animated film about Our Lady of Fatima. Mourinho has spoken of his Catholicism: “I believe totally, clearly,” he told the Telegraph last year. “Every day I pray, every day I speak with Him”. He said he prays for his family life and for happiness. He and his wife support several causes including a Catholic food programme in Setubal, Portugal. The film, called ‘Fe ’, is being made to mark the 100th anniversary of the apparitions of the Virgin Mary to 3 shepherd children in Fatima: Jacinta, Francisco, Lucia. It is scheduled to premiere on May 13th, 2017, 100 years since the 1st apparition. There are notices at the Back of church for pilgrimages to Fatima for the 100th Anniversary. FIRST HOLY COMMUNION The story of Fatima is a compendium or summary of many Catholic beliefs. Not least that Jesus is truly present to us, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity, in Holy Communion. In other words, Holy Communion is God’s gift of Himself to us. It is where heaven and earth are joined, which we call a Sacrament. Part of the message of Fatima is that God would like us to make reparation, or make up through sacrifices, for men and women, who do not love God in Holy Communion. One way of showing we love someone is being with them. That is why we come to Mass - to be with God in Holy Communion. This is where we are closest to God and receive His life, or grace, if we are open to Him. Jesus, who is God, knew that children are the ones who are most open: Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to these” (Luke 28:16). Jesus is saying that children are the ones who trust, not in themselves, but others. That is what the Catholic Faith is : trusting in God. May Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Our Lady of Fatima, Blessed Jacinta and Blessed Francisco pray for them.
