Community Health &

Wellbeing Network

What do you do on a day to day basis? I work in the office part time and I provide admin support and keep all of the financial records up to date. It’s a very busy job.

What do you enjoy most about your job? I enjoy that every day is different and I enjoy being part of such an enthusiastic team. Team meetings are always good where I get to hear all about what every-one has been doing over the last few weeks.

Why do you think it’s important to keep active? It’s good for you both physically and mentally. I always feel brilliant after an exercise class. I have made a lot of new friends at my classes and I recently ran with some of them in the Pretty Muddy Race For Life, we raised around £1,000 for cancer research and had a great time doing it.

What are your hobbies and interests when you are not at work? I have recently started hillwalking and have conquered Ptarmigan Ridge of Ben Lomond, and Ben Vorlich. I am hoping to climb Ben Chabhair next. I also love Zumba. It’s very important to find time to do things you enjoy.

What book is on your bedside at the moment? Captain Corelli’s Mandolin. It’s the only book I have read more than once, it’s funny, sad and romantic.

If you could have one wish what would it be? For all of my friends, family and people around me to always be happy and have good health.

Hearty Lives Renfrewshire update

Our new Parkour Club in Linwood launched at the beginning of September!

Linwood Parkour came about due to a demand from local young people. A young person from St Benedict's High school designed the fabulous logo for the club!

We hope to raise enough money to make it sustainable beyond that time! Hearty Lives Renfrewshire youth workers provide a health input at the club to make young people more aware of the importance of their heart health! Glasgow Parkour Coaching provide the Parkour coach every week.

There are still a few spaces

available at both sessions on

Tuesdays:

6.00pm-7.00pm

7.00pm-8.00pm

Peer Education project

We are currently training our second round of peer educators. Young people

undertake a 6 week training course on heart health where we look at specific factors that affect our heart health such as sugar in drinks, healthy eating, physical activity and smoking. At the end of the training course young people take forward a project that will promote heart health to their peers in their school or in their community.

Young people aged 14-18 who live or attend school in Linwood are invited to apply to be a peer educator. Contact Cheryl by email: [email protected] or message her on facebook: www.facebook.com/heartylivesrenfrewshire

Hearty Lives Club

For pupils within St Benedict's we now have a Hearty Lives Club running on a

Thursday lunchtime for S1 and S2 pupils. This is organised and led by our S4 Hearty Lives

young leaders who plan fun games and activities based around heart health. Pupils were tasting some

different fruits last week!

Young people must live or

attend school in Linwood.

The Hearty Lives project which sits within Active Communities was successful in securing funding from Renfrewshire Council’s Local Area Committee to start this club up and fund it for a year.

what we do

designed by Active Communities

Jogging and Walking

Now that our lovely long summer has come to an end we thought it might be a good time to think about safety tips for running and walking in the evening.

Having company - exercising with a friend or in a group - can give you confidence and keep each other motivated.

See and be seen - wearing hi vis vests, armbands, jackets, etc helps others to see you, especially drivers. Head or hand held torches can be useful to help you be seen and to see any potential hazards. Keep to well lit areas.

Safety awareness - let someone know when you’ll be out, what your expected route will be and let them know when you get home.

Think about your route and keep to busier routes rather than isolated spots where there will be other people around.

Check weather forecasts and consider whether the routes you’ve chosen to run or walk on will have been treated if the forecast is for snow or ice.

Using earphones to listen to the radio or music might stop you be-ing able to hear what’s going on around you.

Dress in light layers to allow you to control your temperature and ensure you are comfy. And, last but not least, have FUN!
