Dear Student
In this Assignment you were assessed on the features of a Logbook and how the
trainees will use the Logbook.
The purpose of this Tutorial Letter is to provide feedback on your performance for
Assignment 4. Please read the Feedback Tutorial Letter carefully. Additionally read the
individual feedback on the Assignment itself as that feedback is meant to improve your
performance and to show where you did well and what to improve upon.
You were expected to make a Fifteen (15) minutes presentation using PowerPoint, to
the Centre management explaining in detail all the features and how the trainees will
use the Logbook. PowerPoint can be seen as the modern Over Head Projector (OHP) –
a tool for supporting a lesson and at its simplest level allows one to easily make and
edit slides, bring in colour and text, and use bullet points and reveal methods. It is a
very effective tool or learning aid to use to enhance the learning process if used
correctly.
There are important guidelines to remember when designing a PowerPoint
Presentation:
It is important to design presentations to attract attention and also to use them
effectively in a classroom. The following guidelines were taken and amended from the
Study Guide, ETP410S. The guidelines are to be followed when you design a
PowerPoint presentation:
• One main point per slide – Slide one should contain the Introduction. Slide
two should contain the objectives. Slide three, four, five and six should
explain in detail all the features of the logbook and how the trainees will
use the Logbook.
• Use space effectively
• Maximum of 8 lines per slide
• Headings, 24pt minimum
• Text, 18pt minimum
• Lower case rather than upper case
3
• Keep it simple in terms of colour effectiveness

To answer this question start with an introduction by defining the Log book.
Definition of a Log book
A trainee logbook is a document which each trainee use to record the learning
experiences that they have had and the competencies that they have achieved
throughout the course of their training. The trainee log book can be used during the
period of job attachment. (Du Preez, 2013, p50)
After the introduction, state the objectives of the Assignment. The introduction and
objectives could have been part of the Power Point presentation.
Purpose of a Logbook
• To encourage trainees to reflect on new skills, e.g. operation of a binding
machine in Office Administration, Level 1, they have learned by recording them
in a systematic way
• To enable trainees to see their progress against the set competencies
• To ensure that the required areas of competence are covered during the work
experience
• To provide evidence of learning
The features of a Logbook should include all components below:
• Trainees Personal record that will include name and surname, date of birth, Id
number and contact details
• Company’s information that will include name and surname of
Supervisor/Manager during the job attachment period and contact details
• Attendance Summary
• Record of modules covered
• Weekly Activity reports
• Safety and General rules
• Performance assessment sheet
4
Conclusion
The conclusion must summarise the main points in the Assignment which are about the
features of the Logbook and how the trainees will use the Logbook.
• Attach to this Tutorial Letter is an example of a Power Point Presentation to
guide you. The presentation must be done in such a way that it will be easy for
the Centre Management to understand what the Logbook is all about and how
the trainees will use it.
• Make use of relevant examples as I did in your presentation.
POINTERS FOR THE NEXT and LAST ASSIGNMENT
• It is very important to read and understand the instructions before attempting to
submit the Assignment.
• Make sure that you proofread your text to check for language and grammatical
errors
• Present your Assignment in a logical and coherent manner
• Summarise the main points in the Conclusion
• Cite all sources according to the APA referencing style
