To, The Vice Chancellor, MUET The Registrar, MUET The Dean, MUET, and The Chairmen ES, TL and CS, Mehran University of Engineering & Technology, Jamshoro, Pakistan Subject: Request for the establishment of Career Counseling Center in MUET Dear Sir, As you know that many of the students of this university have kept on maintaining the tradition of proving themselves in studies by securing good positions & gaining sufficient amount of knowledge to tackle the problems being faced in the practical field. But unfortunately, the same students lack the proper counseling & linkage with the industry, so that they may choose where to go after passing out from here. Most of them don’t even know that what their possible job openings are? Sir, we be-ing the members of the first official students’ help forum of Mehran University, MUST, realize this need of the students and have come up with the solution to this problem; that’s the establishment of a Career Counseling Center in our department. The main purpose of the center shall be: ª To organize various seminars & workshops on the platform of our forum, in which ex-Mehranians, currently serving in some of the reputed companies, shall be requested to present their talks & let the students benefit from their experience. ª Moreover, the students can also get aware about the current trends in the industry & the new ground-breaking technologies. ª Apart from this, the students of final year shall be provided with the proper counseling & the information that they need to get scholarships & continue their higher studies abroad. This center shall preferably be headed by a teacher of Mehran UET who shall be assisted by an execu-tive council comprising of the active members of this forum.

Sir, we have also conducted a poll on online yahoo group named “sar_muet” to have the feedback whether it’s a good idea to establish such a center or not. Many of the teachers, ex-students partici-pated in this poll with their valuable suggestions. The outstanding number of votes in favor of the center speaks for itself.

Therefore, it’s kindly requested to you to extend your cooperation to our forum in the said matter & let us help the students so that we may achieve the cause of our forum in a better way. Thanking in anticipation. Yours truly, The Members, Mehran University Students Team (MUST) forum

Admission, Scholarships, and Research Proposal for Australia Admission, Scholarships, and Research Proposal for Australia Admission, Scholarships, and Research Proposal for Australia Admission, Scholarships, and Research Proposal for Australia

By Tayab D. Memon

On recipient of several individual emails about Studies at Australia, Scholarships, IELTS, Research Proposal, Career Counseling etc I am convinced to write comprehensive information about the generic queries. What is the right proc-ess to secure admission at Australian Universities, What are the prospect opportunities of Scholarships at Australian Universities, How to start preparation of IELTS, Writing of Research Proposal is a scientific activity how to deal with that etc are major of them? Generally students are prudent of university ranking; the recent list of top 200 Universities around the world may be an ample source of ‘good universities’; where you may start seeking admission. But good practice is to secure admission according to area of interest rather that ranking of the university!! For further informa-tion please follow the links: http://www.timeshig hereducation. co.uk/hybrid. asp?typeCode= 243 Generally admission process is carried out in two ways; • Through Proper Channel (TPC)or • International Office (IO) Usually if you are interested in research degree (Masters/PhD) it is advised to go through TPC process. TPC process can be summarized as; assuming that at broader level keywords of your area of interest are ready for example; Image Proc-essing, Speech Recognition, Emotion Recognition, , Synthesize of Digital Filters, Wireless Sensor Networks, Biomedical Signals Processing, Software Radios, 3G/4G Networks, Control & Instrumentation, Digital Signal Processing, VLSI etc. Next critical step is to start search for a suitable supervisor that may fit in according to your area of interest. A good supervisor is one of the blessings of God. This process may be mitigated, if you short list the universities on priority ba-sis that may be; Research Group, Research Funding/Scholarship , Ranking of the University, Research Potential, and Comfortable Environment etc. After worth reading of faculty member’s profiles from university web site, you should come up with 5-10 supervisors’ shortlist. On priority basis start banging one-by-one and keep it continuous until you get positive consent of a supervisor. Of positive consent means you are eligible to put his/her name in admission appli-cation as supervisor & send all the scanned certificates/ testimonials to international office for further process. Worth noticeable is ‘every process can be carried out by email’. Usually there is no need to send documents by ordinary mail!! Each Australian University has International Office (IO) portal where you can directly submit an admission application for research degree. International Office is responsible to send your admission application to prescribed school. School will propagate your admission application (AP) among all academics related to your area of interest mentioned in AP. On positive consent of any supervisor, IO will issue an offer letter mentioning the supervisor name and project title. Allotted project title and supervisor may not be a good experience; the only disadvantage of IO process!! But you can change the supervisor without any hesitation if circumstances are not in favor after your arrival. Postgraduate Research International Students can take benefit of two major scholarships offered by Australian Govern-ment known as; International Postgraduate Research Scholarship (IPRS) and International Research Scholarship (IRS); IRS is specified with university name as RUIRS (RMIT University IRS). IPRS covers the fees component and health insur-ance, IRS covers the stipend that is AUD$23,427 per annum. Each university has been allocated specific quota; depend-ing upon the strength of a university and its research potential. Deadline of these scholarships’ is October 30 every year. Essential requirements of these scholarships are Admission in research degree in any Australian University, IELTS, Good CGPA, Research Proposal and Research Publications (if any). For further details please see the following link; http://www.rmit. edu.au/browse; ID=gocpxjuwcdnp; STATUS=A? QRY=IPRS&STYPE=ENTIRE

IELTS is the mandatory Australian Visa condition. To commence a research degree you need 6.5 band overall & minimum 6 bands in each module (Speaking, Writing, Reading, and Listening). For an average/above average student it is advised to purchase IELTS Cambridge book set and start preparation at your own. A burnt DVD of IELTS Model Tests and some extra material are provided with Cambridge Book set. Even if you feel difficulty, you can have 1-3 (hourly) meetings with your seniors (who has already done IELTS/TOEFL etc) or any English Tutor. If this doesn’t work you may join any English Language Center that may guide you in all four components. For further information of IELTS requirement please follow the link; http://www.rmit. edu.au/browse; ID=dpfi0k5w9x9fz ;STATUS=A? QRY=IELTS% 20Requirement&STYPE=ENTIRE To commence a Research Degree at Australian Universities, initial one-two pages Research Proposal (RP) should be pro-vided with Admission Application. Research Proposal should be discussed with prospect supervisor if you have attempted 'through proper channel' admission process. In either case you can submit any pervious research work that clearly indi-cates your prospect area of interest like; undergraduate/ Postgraduate thesis/project. Normally it has been practiced to process the Visa Application as well as Admission Application (sometimes) through agents as he/she will protect you at all stages & 100% success rate is assured! Generally we speculate that agents will do all my works because he is removing the substantial amount from our pocket. But ‘Nuisance Situation’ is created when agents do nothing but only passing information from here to there; even they ask you to complete the admission and visa application form. They only develop a 'strong bridge' between you & Australia High Commission and send all your information via courier service “TCS”; rest of all the tasks are performed by you. It is advised to process ‘Visa and Admis-sion’ application directly at the cost of reading from Australian Immigration website properly (www.immi.gov. au). All updated information is available at this website, even agents are supposed to visit this website for proper guidance. I hope this basic information will help you.
