This nationally endorsed course provides training in the skills and knowledge required for the installation and maintenance of telecommunications cabling in buildings and premises, to meet the Australian Communications Media Authority (ACMA) Open Cabler Registration.

The course encompasses working safely to Australian Communications and Media Authority’s ‘Open’ Cabling Provider Rules, installing multiple telephone lines, multi-pair cables and backbone cabling, inclusive of terminating at socket outlets and termination modules and distributors; testing and compliance checks; and completing cabling documentation.

Access to Telecommunication Services. COURSE DURATION5 days full time. COURSE REQUIREMENTSApplicants must hold a current WA Unrestricted Electrician’s Licence or equivalent issued in an Australian State or Territory.To gain entry into this course, applicants must have attained the pre-requisite units of competency.

The pre-requisite units can be delivered and assessed at the College requiring additional attendance and fees, or may be attained within the qualification:

UEE20711 Certificate II in Data and Voice Communications; orUEE30811 Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician.

ACMA OPEN CRITERION FOR CABLING EXPERIENCE As declared by the Australian Communications and Media Authority, candidates qualifying under competency standard requirements do not need to meet the cabling experience requirements as there is very low risk that a candidate who is formally assessed for competency under competency standard requirements would pass the assessment without having adequate experience.

Fully enclosed shoes must be worn at all times in CET buildings. Safety boots/shoes must be worn when working in the workshop. Refer to the Code of Conduct on the College website www.cet.asn.au for details on dress code. COURSE MATERIALSIt is recommended that applicants obtain the following resources prior to course commencement:

• AS/CA S008 (latest edition)• AS/CA S009 (latest edition)• IDC Terminating Tool (Krone or similar) • General cable stripping tools
