These slides accompanied my role as first respondent to the Museum Computer Network's session on emerging models of online learning in museum spaces, most notably the Massive Open Online Course phenomenon. My position is that museum successes with online course offerings have been in spite of rather than because of MOOCs. Rather, I see the future of museum online education as social, and explain many of the opportunities for museums to engage social learning in online spaces.
