SEPTEMBER 2014 The Swiss model -Sustainable Innovations for Japan-
Japan has become one of the world’s leading economies. However, as its society has matured, the energy to
thrust forward has also decreased and is gradually leading to various regional disparities. The Tohoku earthquake
and Fukushima nuclear disaster presented new hardships and revealed hidden problems. In order to break the
deadlocks and overcome these problems, the symposium’s committee believes that some answers can be found
in Switzerland’s unique risk management and decentralization systems. This symposium aims to explain the
Swiss model and discuss the next step for Japan.
