III. GRADUATION & RECOGNITION RITES The Recognition Rites and 60th Commencement Exercises

were held last March 29 and 30, respectively with the theme BASC at its Diamond Jubilee: Paying Tribute to Society, Ushering Forth Conscientious & Productive Graduates.

IV. EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

In cooperation with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, the College conducted

the POEA on Wheels activity at the San Ildefonso Gymnasium last May 25. The College donated 108 pairs of slippers for elementary pupils at the locality last May 19 to the

local government as part of its Brigada Eskwela activity. The College celebrated its 60th Foundation Anniversary or Diamond Jubilee last February 22-24

with the theme BASC: 60 years of Uniting Agriculture & Education, Serving as Instrument to National Stability. The following were the activities:

Parade & Street Dance Competition – The parade was participated by all college personnel and students and the first ever college-wide street dance competition was participated by the five institutes and the Doña Remedios Trinidad Campus.

Theater Show – The stage musical was entitled Romeo & Juliet starred by Sexbomb

Opening of One-stop Service Booths – Booths were opened to the BASC community and visitors for securing NSO, SSS and PAG-IBIG documents.

Fun Games/Laro ng Lahi – Organized by the BASC Faculty & Employees Association, the activity was participated by both personnel and students of the College.

Open House – A variety of Filipino dishes contributed by each office, department and unit in the College was served.

Career Orientation Seminar – The activity was conducted simultaneously with the

I. RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT & TECHNOLOGY MANAGEMENT Varietal Evaluation, On-farm Trials & Seed Production of Organic Vegetables in Central Luzon in

Support to the National Program on Enhancing the Demand among Agriculture, Forestry & Natural Resources (AFNR) & State University/College (SUC) Graduates

Technical experts from the Institute of Plant Breeding conducted a visit to the project during

the first week of April.

Improving Land and Water Productivity & Technology Integration in the Uplands, collaborated with the Department of Agriculture- Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA-BAR) A demonstration farm was established at Brgy. Calumpang, San Miguel showcasing the

following technologies:

Crop production – crops planted are groundnut (1,000 m2), pigeon pea (2,000 m2), cassava (1,300 m2), sweet sorghum (2,000 m2), aerobic rice (2,500 m2), tomato and 100 papaya trees integrated with 600

pineapple plants. Vegetables planted are eggplant, finger pepper and pole sitao.

Orchard production – technology intervention for 300 mango trees was conducted with the help of experts from the Ramon Magsaysay Technological University. At the latest, mango fruits harvested totaled to 700 kilograms.

Animal production – acquired one Anglo-Nubian doe and one Boer buck in addition to the (around) 30 goats at the farm. A feeding system for the livestock was also developed.

Vermicomposting – two vermibeds were constructed for production of organic fertilizer which in turn can be used for the crops planted.

Aerobic Rice Production System: Improving Productivity in Water-scarce Areas of Central Luzon, collaborated with the Commission on Higher Education-Zonal Research Center (CHED-ZRC) Four experiment sites for second cropping were established at

the Provinces of Bulacan, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija and Bataan between January and February and ended between February and March.

Food Processing

The product bitter gourd pickles was developed and showcased during the opening of the

Technology Commercialization Center.

II. EXTENSION & TRAINING Landbank of the Philippines (LBP)-BASC Technology Promotion

Center A field day on bioyodal technology was conducted at the

demonstration farm on rice and vegetables of Mr. Julian Dela Cruz, a farmer-cooperator, at Brgy. San Jose, Plaridel, Bulacan last March 30.

Goat Upgrading & Production

As of the present, there are 60 farmer-beneficiaries.

Techno-Gabay Program (TGP) A field day and Techno-Forum on Science &

Technology-based Farm (pesticide-free bitter gourd production) was conducted at Brgy. Gabihan, San Ildefonso last April 18.

Financial assistance given to five farmer-cooperators at the Municipality of Calumpit, Bulacan amounting to PHP20,000 was collected last April 25.

Financial assistance amounting to PHP172,000 was released to 43 farmer-cooperators last February 7 and 21.

Papaya and vegetable production is established at the model farm located at the College.

III. SPECIAL PROJECTS

Agricultural Productivity & Social Entrepreneurship Development Project: The Case of the DAR-CHED-ARCs-GK-SUCs Collaboration funded by the Department of Agrarian Reform with PHP23,128,000

A brainstorming was conducted at the GK Enchanted

Farm, Brgy. Encanto, Angat with CHED Commisioner Dr. William C. Medrano, GK founder Antonio P. Meloto Jr. and the CLSU group headed by its Vice President for Business Affairs, Dr. Eduardo G. Marzan last May 10. The proposal, as output of the brainstorming, was packaged at the College as headed by Dr. Medrano.

The first draft of the proposal was improved at the CHED

Central Office and presented to Mr. Meloto last May 21. The revised proposal was presented to DAR Secretary

Atty. Virgilio Gil R. Delos Reyes, DAR Director for Region III Teofilo Inocencio, and Atty. Ison Garcia and other DAR staff with the CLSU group headed by its President Dr. Ruben C. Sevilleja last May 31.

Technology Commercialization

A Technology Commercialization Center, which opened last February 20, was established at the College. Its main purpose is for commercialization and promotion of different agricultural products harvested and/or processed at the College and municipalities in the Province of Bulacan. Showcasing of products is coordinated with the municipal agriculture officer of San Ildefonso, Bulacan.

Agrarian Reform Community Connectivity & Economic Support Services

The College was granted with PHP400,000 by the Department of Agrarian Reform for implementation of the project.

Needs assessment were conducted at Brgy. Umpucan, San Ildefonso and Brgy. Maligaya, San Miguel last March 26; Brgy. San Jose, Plaridel and Brgy. Inaon, Pulilan last March 27 and Brgy. Kaybanban, San Jose Del Monte last March 28.

Carabao Upgrading The herd population totaling to 31 as of 18 June 2012 is

V. AWARDS

Mr. Nemencio J. Concepcion, the farmer-scientist of the College, was awarded as Best

Magsasakang Siyentista in Region III by the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources Research & Development through the Central Luzon Agriculture and Resources Research & Development Consortium at the National Economic & Development Authority-Regional Office III, City of San Fernando, Pampanga last March 9.

VI. OTHERS

The College accepted the Bureau of Animal Industry’s (BAI’s) proposed plan on selecting farmer-

beneficiaries of biogas digester last April 3. Also, a group of researchers from BAI was assisted in conducting a survey at Brgy. Mataas na Parang, San Ildefonso on the processing of salted eggs last April 13.

The College formed a partnership with the National Soil and Water Resources Research & Development Center-Bureau of Soil & Water Management (NSWRRDC-BSWM) in the utilization of the five-hectare land of BSWM for BASC’s Aerobic Rice R&D and Extension program.

The Department of Agriculture-Regional Office III released a support fund amounting to PHP3.5 M distributed to the following projects:

Income-generating Projects

Under Research, Development & Technology Management:

Potential of Aerobic Rice Technology in Improving Productivity & Profitability of Rice Farming in Upland Rainfed Areas of Central Luzon (PHP500,000) – The project was launched last April 21 with the presence of representatives from the partner-SUCs in Region III namely Bataan Peninsula State University, Central Luzon State University, Pampanga Agricultural College and Tarlac College of Agriculture. To date, there are ten farmer-cooperators for the establishment of technology demonstration farms at the provinces where the partner-SUCs and BASC are located. Each farmer-cooperator was provided with one bag of rice seeds, three bags of inorganic fertilizer and one liter of insecticide. A MOA was also executed among BASC, the partner-SUCs and farmer-cooperators.

Under Extension & Training:

Palayamanan in the Community (PHP1 M) Aerobic Rice Technology: A Key to Rice Sufficiency in the Country (PHP2 M) – The project

started with an inception meeting with the partner-local government units represented by the municipal agriculture officers of San Ildefonso, San Rafael and Pandi, Bulacan last May 29. A representative from the National Irrigation Administration was present as well. As result, the following ecosystems were identified for establishment of technology demonstration farms: 1. Upland rainfed areas at Brgy. Sapang Dayap, San Ildefonso 2. Lowland rainfed areas at Brgy. Pasong Callos, San Rafael 3. Tail-end areas of the Bustos-Pandi (BusPan) pump irrigation system

Farmer-cooperators were oriented after the meeting on the memorandum of agreement to be signed for the project. To date, there are 53 farmer-cooperators identified.
