WelcomeA huge ‘thank you’ to everyone who completed our recent customer survey. We received over 800 responses which is fantastic. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. We now have an even better idea of what matters to you, which means we can continue to develop Phoenix with our customers’ interests and concerns front of mind.
So what did we discover? Most encouragingly, our film programme was rated especially highly (with world cinema, comedy and new-British films the most popular), and our customer service is seen as a real strength. Ticket prices were rated as good value, and the majority of people said they would be more than happy to recommend Phoenix to their friends – all very encouraging!
Interestingly, more of you are now booking tickets online, as well as relying on our website and regular emails to keep up to date. Whilst our monthly paper programme remains our most popular marketing tool, we’re looking to develop these Internet tools and facilities in the year ahead.
The new temporary car park next to Phoenix has been well received, but concerns about parking remain a worry for some. We’ll continue to work with the council and others in the area to keep parking and access to Phoenix top of the agenda.
With so many issues raised, it would be impossible to cover them all here. We’re taking all your thoughts on board – the praise and the criticism – and will be working hard to give you reason to rate us even more highly in next year’s survey!

West of Memphis 15
Fri 1 – Mon 4 Feb
Dir: Amy BergDocumentaryNZ / UK 2012, 2hrs 27mins
A fascinating documentary as riveting as any thriller, West of Memphis follows the events of 1994, when teenagers Jessie Misskelley, Damien Echols and Jason Baldwin were arrested for the murder of three schoolchildren in Arkansas. Amid rising hysteria from the local community over the ‘occult’ nature of the crime, the boys were rushed to trial and found guilty despite huge inconsistencies in the prosecution case. This astonishing documentary tells the story of their 18-year fight for justice.
The Sessions 15
Fri 1 – Thu 14 Feb
Dir: Ben LewinActors: John Hawkes, Helen HuntUSA 2012, 1hr 34mins
Ben Lewin’s award-winning comedy stars John Hawkes as Mark O’Brien – a man crippled by polio but determined to lose his virginity. With the help of his carer andpriest Father Brendan (a hilarious William H. Macy), he contacts professional sex surrogate Cheryl. With great performances all round, The Sessions brings to mind last year’s Untouchables for its refusal to get maudlin or wallow in pity. A funny, inspiring crowd-pleaser that celebrates the power of life, love and intimacy.
