A rather unusual sight below the Fort Peck Dam

right now is the exceptional amount of ice built up,even along the tailrace. Usually if you hit a nice

day you can put a boat in at Boy Scout Park and zip

upstream to do some shing. Even though we had

    record-warm temperatures a week-and-a-half ago,

the past few nights have been extremely cold and

the low ow of 6,600 cubic feet per second being

released through the power houses is letting the

ice build due to the low current. We probably wont

see any boat trafc in the area of the Interpretive

Center or power houses for a few days even

though warmer weather settles in today including

some light freezing rain that is likely over mosNortheastern Montana counties. Light amounts

of freezing rain are anticipated, but could easily

create travel difculties and slick walkways. Areas

of freezing rain will move eastward and decline

by Friday morning. Areas to the north could see a

mix of snow and freezing rain, while areas to the

south could see a mix of freezing rain and rain

Highs this weekend are looking to be well into the

40s but, as usual, accompanied by wind. But tha

should help to bust up the ice in the photo above.

It was cold & the fag was popping

American Sniper Chris Kyleessential in Fallujah liberation Te importance o military sharpshooters such asAmerican Sniper Chris Kyle (currently showing atValley Cinemas) was never better demonstrated thanduring the 10-month struggle to take Fallujah in 2004. Mr. Zinke, a reshman Republican rom Montana,

talked with Te Washington imes as some on thepolitical lef have disparaged the job o a sniper inwar and dismissed the blockbuster movie AmericanSniper, based on Kyles same-titled memoir. Rep. Ryan K. Zinke, a ormer Navy SEAL, saidmarksmen like American Sniper author Chris Kyle arecrucial to U.S. military operations. A sniper providesprotection o the ground troops or movement. roops, ofentimes in an urban environment, are limited in theirsight picture. A sniper is able to see around the cornerand protect the troops movements.

While the New England Patriots Super BowlChampionship merchandise is flying off the shelves inNew England and across the country ollowing Sundaysbig win, the same gear made or the Seattle Seahawks incase they were victorious will not go to waste. Sealed boxes o -shirts, caps and sweatshirts namingthe Seahawks Super Bowl champs will be shipped to awarehouse, according to the GuardianOpens in a newwindow. Te items will be sorted and then shippedoverseas to those in need and those who could care less

that the incorrect victor is printed on the items. One o the donated items will include a Seahawksback-to-back champions -shirt, as a Seattle V reportertweeted out afer the loss. In 1996, the NFL stopped destroying the losing teamsmerchandise, and since then, has leaned on Washington-based World Vision to distribute the goods. Tis year, the NFL has switched gears and will rely on Good 360 todistribute the deeated teams apparel. Te NFL likes the concept o an umbrella organizationthat has the ability to meet many different charitable

organizations, Cindy Hallberlin, CEO o Good360, aVirginia-based organization that distributes donatedgoods to a network o more than 32,000 pre-qualifiedcharities, schools and libraries on behal o Americas topbrands, said. World Vision is part o our network, butwere able to reach more organizations. Last year World Vision shipped the Denver Broncos(Omaha! Hee-aw, Hee-aw) memorabilia to Arica, butpast shipmentsan estimated 100,000 -shirts and capsannuallyhave gone to Armenia, Bosnia, El Salvador, Haiti,Nicaragua, Romania, Uganda, Zambia in previous years.

At least it aint going to waste

Heres a shirt Charlie Maag probably would have received

from his buddies in Seattle had the Seahawks just gave the

ball to Marshawn Beast Mode Lynch.

Another angle of just how much ice has built up below the Fort Peck power houses, this photo

was taken yesterday afternoon near the Park Grove Bridge (notice the no wake buoy).
