Principal’s Message:

I love the days when we gather as a whole school community to share, discuss and celebrate together. Our Pink Shirt Day assembly was one of those days. BODY SCIENCE (Sexual Education)

- Parent Meeting with Saleema Noon – Wednesday, March 30, 6:30 – 8pm pm

Parents are strongly encouraged to attend the parent evening so that they know what their

children will be learning in the student sessions.

Teaching children about their changing bodies and sexual health has been part of the

curriculum for decades. There are many teaching resources available to us to teach students

the required learning outcomes. Our PAC members believe that this is important learning

and have, once again, sponsored the cost of bringing Saleema Noon to our school to

support us.

Age-Appropriate Sessions for Students – one session per grade

– Thursday, March 31

- Friday, April 1

This is the link to Saleema Noon’s website in case you would like to know more about her

programs: http://www.saleemanoon.com Respected by the media as a sexual health expert, Saleema has appeared as a regular guest on Global News, CKNW Radio, Shaw TV, CityTV Breakfast Television, CTV Morning Live, The Kid Carson Show on

Speech Fest Every year primary and intermediate students have an opportunity to develop their skills in

writing and public speaking through our Speech Fest. Students write speeches on a wide

variety of topics and practice speaking in small groups, in front of cameras and in front of the

class. Students are chosen to represent their classes at our school competition that will be held

on April 12. Two primaries, two grade 4/5 students and two grade 6/7 students will be chosen

to represent Noel Booth at the district competition on April 22.

Noel Booth Annual Family BBQ

Save the date: Friday, June 3rd

This will be the third annual Family BBQ. It is a great community event that

features great food and old-fashioned games that everyone loves. It is a

wonderful way to make memories with your kids and to get to know the people in

our Noel Booth family.

Hot Lunch Our PAC sure do know how to make a tasty grilled cheese sandwich! Thanks to JoAnn Pearson

and her crew for their time and expertise in making hot lunch from scratch. I heard,

“Mmmmm,” all over the school on Friday. They are always looking for more helpers on Hot

Lunch Day. Please offer an hour or two of your time if you can.

Parking at Noel Booth We appreciate how respectful the Noel Booth parents are regarding using the parking lots. The

staff lot is for staff and deliveries only. Parents park in the Township lot. We do not have drive-

thru/drop off parking in front of the school. We are fortunate to have way more parking than

any other elementary schools in the district. Daycare parents are permitted to park in the staff

lot before 8 am and after 4 pm as the lot is much less busy and students are not on the school

grounds during those times. We have not enforced the exclusive use of the handicapped

parking space at the front of the building in recent years, as we have only rarely needed to use

it for an injured child or parent. Next year we will have two students whose families will

need that spot to be reserved. I have requested that the spot be repainted to make it clear and

that a sign be placed there so that everyone will know.

Head Lice

Unfortunately head lice is around in schools and the community on a regular basis. The best

defence is to check your child’ head once per week to ensure that it does not take hold in your

home if your child does come in contact with it. Sharing hats or hoodies is never a good idea.

The following information comes from Public Health:

Head lice is not a disease, but is a nuisance. Lice will not go away without treatment. If the initial treatment does not kill all of the eggs (nits), a follow-up treatment may be required 7-10 later to kill the new hatched lice. Treatments should be repeated in 7 to 10 days to kill lice that have hatched after the first treatment. If one person in a house has lice, most likely others do as well, and they will need to be treated also.

Children do not have to be kept out of school for head lice but parents will be

informed so that it can be dealt with promptly.

Music News Mr. Heard’s corner

Band-

Monday, February 29 at 7:00pm is the feeder school concert at Brookswood Secondary

School. All band students are expected to do their best to attend. Please arrive at 6:45. Students

should wear their black and white concert outfits. All black is also acceptable. This is a great

way to get acquainted with the high school. It is also an important community building event

for Noel Booth.

Ukulele and Band-

Please encourage your child to bring home their instrument and music daily and then to

remember to bring it back to school on music days.

Please encourage your kids to practice a little bit every day. The ideal practice time would be

how ever long it takes to play properly through the warm up routine as well as any songs that

the students have memorized or have music for.

What should students practice? Band classes have a warm up routine on page 18 and 30 in their

band books. Madam Barkley’s class also does p40-41. Mrs. Furuya’s, Mrs. Costello’s and Mrs.

Gibbs’ classes play the D Major, G Major and the E harmonic Minor scale 4 times on each note,

3 times on each note, 2 times on each note, and once on each note. In addition students should

practice any songs that they have memorized in class or which they have sheet music for.
