CD of the Week: Get to Know the Mother of God: There’s a little bit about Mary in Scripture. We can glean a bit more

from the Tradition of the Church. But where can we go to get the complete picture, to find out about the whole Mary? In an engaging style, Chris Padgett does just that as he walks us through what the Bible has to say about the Mother of God. What has she meant to the Church throughout the centuries, what have the saints told us about her, and most importantly, what we can learn from her ourselves?

Golf Tournament meeting last week had a few folks who came to volunteer. It is a long time until June however we know how fast time flies. Please, let me know what you

will be able to help with or can we talk about it? We have fun – the players have fun & it’s for a very good cause. God bless you.

Our Lenten Journey begins this coming Ash Wednesday. Goodness. We are so fortunate that the church & our dear Lord found a way to deepen our understanding & our Love relationship with Jesus, the Trinity, Holy Family, all the Saints & Heavenly Court. When we take advantage of the calendar & all the lessons which we hear over & over throughout the years. It seems like such a short while ago that we were allowing our spirit to move closer & closer to the Divine Moment of accepting Baby Jesus into the cradle of our hearts. Every year we comprehend the meaning, the message, the glorious Love & Mercy being poured-out for each one of us. The opportunity to grow closer in all ways during this Lenten Journey is one of the most profound gifts. In combination with the 40 days of Lent, the Stations of the Cross, the fasting, reconciliation services, the recommendations of devotionals, lectures & frequent community prayer – we all change for the better each & every year we are given. Many will receive the sacraments of the church as they have completed their studies & are welcomed into the

community as witness to the growth & hope which we continue to see manifest. Jesus & our Blessed Mother are here in our midst helping us take these steps of faith leading our understanding & commitment to the healing sanctification of our battered souls. Friends & strangers alike rely on us to take the precious gifts from Heaven as we have gained these graces & give them freely to those who do not yet fully know or freely accept. The smiles & heart felt welcome to those who remain outside are longing to be noticed, be found & blessed by the Love of God we carry within our souls. We are the hands, heart, eyes, feet, mouth of the Savior deep in the cradle of our soul. When we give Him to others without hesitation, we “Do this in memory of Me.” We know we are limited, however He has told us to “Love one another as He has Loved us.” How can we not follow His command? Why would we withhold His Love? This is all we have do – give freely – Love without limit & nurture those who He sends our way. This is the beginning of the season of deep contemplation. Withdraw & renew your strength with Jesus on this Journey to Salvation & Everlasting Love & Life. Our Journey will be a beautiful walk with our Sweet Jesus. We are His followers & we will be joining hearts & intention of the others to deepen our desire to surrender to the Way of the Cross. Amen.

This week is part two regarding the King cake tradition. Enjoy!

New Orleans: Starting on Epiphany on January 6th, residents begin holding parties especially dedicated to King Cake. King Cake parties bring families and community members together to celebrate the season of Mardi Gras, with its krewe parades and festivals. King Cake is so symbolic of the Mardi Gras celebration for residents it is believed that consuming King Cake outside of the Carnival season will result in rain on Mardi Gras day. The dessert’s “search for the baby,” the small figurine located inside the cake, is a fun way for residents of New Orleans to celebrate their Christian faith.

The colors of the king cake originally came from the Christian religion. The purple symbolizes justice, the green symbolizes faith, and the gold symbolizes power. The three colors honor the three kings who visited the Christ child (Jesus) on Epiphany, the 12th day after Christmas.
