WE ARE TO BE TRANSFORMED Today's showing forth of God's glory is filled with a light that astonishes and reveals. Jesus transfigured on Mount Ta-bor energizes even the sleepy apostles, who see but cannot get hold of it. They can be forgiven for not apprehending the full meaning of this extraordinary vision of a transfigured Jesus with Elijah and Moses. The whole of the Law and prophets is summed up here on this mountain. The transfiguration on Mount Tabor is handed over to us this Sunday. As Paul reminds us, it is we who are to be trans-formed. The light and life of the Resurrection are set forth here so we do not lose heart and fall entirely asleep. This Sunday looks to Easter. It looks to transformation. It asks us to lift up our heads and acknowledge the risen Lord as our light and our salvation.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The treasures of our tradition can often be traced to one source, but like the waters of a river branching out on its way to the sea, are received differently as they filter through various cultures and customs. Long ago, mostly because of the preparation of candidates for baptism, the annual feast of the Lord's death and resurrection was preceded by a period of preparation. In the West that comes to us as Lent, a word drawn from the Old English word for springtime, referring to the lengthening hours of sunlight in this hemisphere. In the East, the tradition of preparing for Easter is received as "Great Lent," to distinguish it from a secondary "Lent" pre-ceding Christmas, and a two-week period, a kind of "pre-Lent," that gradually introduces the faithful to the austerities of Great Lent. One of the major differences between East and West is in the vigor of the Lenten fast. In Great Lent the cus-toms of fast and abstinence are far more strict than we are accustomed to. For us, meat is off our Lenten tables on Fri-day, but in the East, meat disappears from the diet completely, along with dairy products.

Suy Niệm Chúa Nhật 2 Mùa Chay Năm C Thập giá vinh quang

Có một nhà vua đã hỏi các quan đại thần rằng: - "Trong chiến trận thì cái gì cần nhất?". Một đại thần trả lời: - Tâu bệ hạ, cần nhất là lòng dũng cảm. Nhà vua liền hỏi: - Thế còn sức mạnh và vũ khí? Nhà ngươi quên à? Vị quan nói: - Tâu bệ hạ, nếu người lính đã không có tinh thần dũng cảm thì

sức mạnh và vũ khí của anh ta cũng chẳng giúp được tí gì. Thực vậy, lòng dũng cảm sẽ giúp chúng ta vượt qua khó khăn. Lòng dũng cảm sẽ giúp chúng ta không bỏ cuộc trước nghi nan. Giữa giòng đời chúng ta đang sống đâu mấy khi bình yên! Sóng gió luôn làm cho cuộc đời đong đầy những nghi nan. Ngườikhông có lòng dũng cảm sẽ khó có cơ hội vươn lên. Người không có lòng dũng cảm sẽ bất lực buông xuôi mặc cho giòng đời đẩy đưa.

Những khó khăn, những thử thách theo ky-tô giáo chính là những thập giá trong cuộc đời. Thập giá cuộc đời như bóng với hình hòa quyện vào trong cuộc sống chúng ta. Thập giá trong bổn phận phải thi hành. Thập giá trong hy sinh từ bỏ những đam mê bất chính. Thập giá trong hy sinh để phục vụ anh em. Thập giá đôi khi đưa đến bất ngờ như những nghịch cảnh xảy đến trong cuộc đời. Thập giá quá nặng, nhưng sức người lại yếu đuối. Ðó chính là một cám dỗ khiến chúng ta đôi khi muốn trốn chạy thập giá hay giũ bỏ để tìm sự nhàn rỗi cho bản thân.

Có lẽ, chính trong hành trình đầy cam go của giòng đời này. Giáo Hội cho chúng ta chiêm ngắm cuộc biến hình của Chúa Giêsu trên núi Tabor. Chúa Giêsu đã tỏ rõ dung nhan của một vì Thiên Chúa quyền năng. Ngài muốn dùng thứ ánh sáng từ trên núi cao ấy để chiếu rọi vào cuộc tử nạn mà Ngài sắp trải qua, cũng như chính nỗi hoang mang lo sợ của các môn đệ khi Ngài loan báo cái chết... Ðau khổ làm cho con người sợ hãi, nhưng Chúa bảo "phải qua đau khổ mới tiến tới vinh quang". Cái chết đó là nỗi sợ hãi tột cùng của con người. Nhưng Chúa bảo đừng sợ, vì sau ba ngày chôn cất trong mồ Ngài sẽ sống lại. Vì Ngài là Thiên Chúa của kẻ sống. Nơi Ngài có sự sống đời đời. Trên núi Tabor, Chúa Giê-su cho ba môn đệ nếm trước sự sống thần linh vinh quang của Chúa để thêm sức cho các ông, nhờ đó mà vượt qua những thập giá gian truân. Chính nhờ ánh sáng trên núi Tabor, sẽ giúp cho các ông can đảm đón nhận từng đớn đau, thử thách trong cuộc sống với tinh thần lạc quan, phó thác, chấp nhận, hân hoan.

Cuộc đời luôn có khó khăn, nhưng lại luôn mở ra những lối đi để chúng ta vượt qua. Khó khăn nào cũng sẽ qua đi. Sau bóng đêm là ánh bình minh. Chúa mời gọi chúng ta hãy can đảm đi vào thử thách với niềm tín thác vào Chúa. Chúa mời gọi chúng ta hãy can đảm vác thập giá hằng ngày mà theo Chúa. Thập giá là nhịp cầu đưa ta tới vinh quang Nước Trời. Chính Chúa Giê-su đã đi trước trên con đường thập giá. Chính Chúa đã đi qua thập giá để tiến vào vinh quang phục sinh. Chính Chúa vẫn đang chờ đợi để trao phần thưởng Nước Trời cho những ai trung tín theo Ngài. Người ta kể rằng: Một hôm, có một bác nông dân có một chú lừa chẳng may bị lọt xuống một cái giếng cạn. Chú lừa tội nghiệp kêu la thảm thiết cả buổi mà bác chẳng biết làm cách nào đưa nó lên. Cuối cùng bác nông dân nghĩ rằng chú lừa đã già lắm rồi, thôi thì đành lấp giếng đi vậy. Hơn nữa, một con lừa cũng chẳng đáng bao nhiêu. Nghĩ thế bác liên gọi hàng xóm giúp bác một tay. Tất cả mọi người hè nhau lấy xẻng xúc cát đổ xuống giếng. Lúc đầu, chú lừa hiểu chuyện gì đang xảy ra với mình nên la hét khủng khiếp. Rồi bỗng dưng lừa ta im lặng khiến mọi người ngạc nhiên.

Sau khi đổ đất được một hồi, bác nông dân nhìn xuống và kinh ngạc vô cùng trước những gì mình thấy: cứ một lớp đất đổ xuống lưng mình, nó giũ lớp cát xuống và giẫm chân lên. Khi mọi người tiếp tục đổ xuống đầu con vật, nó lại giũ lớp cát và giẫm chân lên một bước nữa. Cứ thế, cứ thế. Chẳng bao lâu con vật đã leo lên được thành giếng và bước ra ngoài trước sự sửng sốt của mọi người. Cát bụi cuộc đời luôn đổ xuống trên chúng ta, như muốn nhậm chìm cuộc đời chúng ta. Nhưng vẫn còn có một cách để thoát khỏi chúng là giũ bỏ lớp cát và bước lên chúng mà đi. Bởi đâu ai muôn mình mãi là chú lừa mắc cạn mãi đâu! Cuộc sống luôn có thập giá nhưng Chúa bảo phải qua đau khổ mới tới vinh quang. Ðừng thất vọng than van trước khó khăn cuộc sống, nhưng hãy kiên nhẫn vượt qua. Ðừng bi quan về những gì đang diễn ra chung quanh cuộc sống chúng ta, vì Chúa bảo sau đêm dài là ánh bình minh. Hãy can đảm đứng lên từ trong khó khăn vì phẫn thưởng chiến thắng đang chờ chúng ta phía trước. Hãy như con lừa biết trút bỏ mọi lo âu để tâm hồn được thảnh thơi, được nhẹ nhõm để bước theo Chúa. Xin Chúa cho chúng ta biết đón nhận thập giá trong đời sống của mình với hai tiếng xin vâng. Xin cho chúng ta cùng đi với Chúa trong cuộc khổ nạn để mai sau cùng được chia sẻ vinh phúc vinh quang trên trời. Amen. Trich Vietnamese Missionaries

¿SABES QUÉ ES LA CUARESMA? Un tiempo propicio para encontrar la paz del corazón, para retomar el camino de Dios, que es un camino de amor, armonía y paz. Paz que nace del saber que somos amados y perdonados por Dios y del saber que correspon-demos a ese amor.La Cuaresma es una oportunidad para «volver a ser» cristianos, a través de un proceso constante de cambio interior y de avance en el conocimiento y en el amor de Cristo.La conversión no tiene lugar nunca una vez para siempre, sino que es un proceso, un camino interior de toda nuestra vida. Ciertamente este itinerario de conversión evangélica no puede limitarse a un período particular del año: es un camino de todos los días, que tiene que abarcar toda la existencia, cada día de nuestra vida.San Agustín dijo en una ocasión que nuestra vida es un ejercicio único del deseo de acercarnos a Dios, de ser capaces de dejar entrar a Dios en nuestro ser. «Toda la vida del cristiano fervoroso -dice- es un santo deseo».Si esto es así, en Cuaresma se nos invita aún más a «arrancar de nuestros deseos las raíces de la vanidad» para educar el corazón en el deseo, es decir, en el amor de Dios. Dios -dice San Agustín- es todo lo que deseamos» (Cf. «Tract. in Iohn.», 4).Y esperamos que realmente comencemos a desear a Dios, y de este modo desear la verdadera vida, el amor mismo y la verdad (Benedicto XVI, 27 de febrero de 2007).

1. Amarás a Dios. Le amarás sin retóricas, como a tu padre, como a tu amigo. No tengas nunca una fe que no se traduzca en amor. Recuerda siempre que tu Dios no es una energía, un abstracto, la conclusión de un silogismo, sino Alguien que te ama y a quien tie-nes que amar... Y, al mismo tiempo que amas a Dios, huye de esos ídolos que nunca te amarán pero podrían dominarte: el poder, el confort, el dinero, el sentimentalismo, la violencia.2. No usarás en vano las palabras: Dios, familia, amor. No las uses jamás contra nadie, jamás para sacar jugo de ellas, jamás para tu propia conveniencia.3. Piensa siempre que el domingo está muy bien inventado, que tú no eres un animal de carga creado para sudar y morir. Impón a ese desgastante exceso de trabajo, que te acosa y te asedia, algunas pausas de silencio para encontrarte con la soledad, con la música, con la naturaleza, con tu propia alma, con Dios en definitiva.4. Recuerda siempre que lo mejor de ti lo heredaste de tu padre y de tu madre.5. No olvides que naciste carnívoro y agresivo y que, aunque algún filósofo dijo que el “hombre era Lobo para el hombre”, nosotros cristianos no lo somos, aunque te es más fácil matar que amar. Vive despierto para no hacer daño a nadie, demostremos que tenemos razón, libertad y voluntad para res-petar a todos.6. No temas ni la amistad, ni el amor. Pero no caigas nunca en esa gran trampa de creer que el amor es recolectar placer para ti mismo, cuando es transmitir alegría a los demás.7. No robarás a nadie su derecho a ser libre. Recuerda que te die-ron el alma para repartirla y que roba todo aquel que no la reparte, lo mismo que se estancan y se pudren los ríos que no corren.8. Recuerda que, de todas tus armas, la más peligrosa es la lengua. Rinde culto a la verdad, pero no olvides nunca dos cosas: que ja-más acabarás de encontrarla completa y que en ningún caso debes imponerla a los demás.9. No desearás la mujer de tu prójimo, ni su casa, ni su coche, ni su sueldo. No dejes nunca que tu corazón se convierta en un cementerio de chatarra, en un cementerio de deseos innobles.10. No codiciarás los bienes ajenos ni tampoco los propios. Sólo de una cosa puedes ser avaro: de tu tiempo, de llenar la vida de los años -pocos o muchos- que te fueron concedidos.La Cuaresma avanza y todos, al inicio de estos 40 días, co-menzamos con buenos propósitos para ser mejores y al final sentirnos amados por Dios y en su casa. ¿Ya has regresado?, ¿vas de camino?, ¿qué te falta?, ¿cuánto te falta por llegar?, ¿qué último esfuerzo debes hacer? Inicia ala cuaresma, vívela de corazón para que encuentres a Cristo y el te conceda su paz que sobre pasa todo esfuerzo y entendimiento humano. Amén.
