February is the month of love! It is a time for Valentine’s Day, remembering love and emphasizing the importance of love in our lives. The whole month speaks of wellness, such as getting rid of impatience, being stress-free, having wisdom, loyalty, faithfulness and showing love. It’s truly about all the things we love...family, friends, pets, music, food and such. But February is not only about valentines and sweethearts, it can also be a month for self-love and self-care, fostering relationships with family and friends, and loving others. Self-love is about intentionally taking care of yourself and who you are. It’s about getting enough rest and giving yourself the time, love and attention to recharge your mind, body, heart and soul. When you find yourself stressed out, impatient and irritable with others, take time out for yourself. This includes physically caring for yourself by eating healthy and exercising regularly. Actively taking the time to focus on being your best self and focusing on your family and friends enables you to be more compassionate and giving and to love others in a better way. February is a month to celebrate our most treasured relationships, so take time to focus on all the ways this can be done. Experience all the reasons it’s known as the month of love here at Fountainview.

February is the month of love! It is a time for Valentine’s Day, remembering love and emphasizing the importance of love in our

lives. The whole month speaks of wellness, such as getting rid of impatience, being stress-free, having wisdom, loyalty, faithfulness

and showing love. It’s truly about all the things we love...family, friends, pets, music, food and such.

But February is not only about valentines and sweethearts, it can also be a month for self-love and self-care, fostering relationships with family and friends, and loving others. Self-love is about intentionally taking care of yourself and who you are. It’s about getting enough rest

This includes physically caring for yourself by eating healthy and exercising regularly. Actively taking the time to focus on being your best self and focusing

Wellness CornerFebruary is American Heart Month Tips to Improve Your Heart Health Each February, the observance of American Heart Month helps raise awareness of ways to stay heart healthy and prevent heart disease. For 30 years, the number of deaths from heart disease, the number one killer of persons in the United States, declined. However, that progress has stalled in recent years, potentially because of high rates of obesity and hypertension, important risk factors for heart disease. With increased awareness and education, everyone can work together to prevent the conditions that lead to heart disease. Heart disease is responsible for one in every four deaths (over 630,000) in the United States each year. Approximately 790,000 men and women have a heart attack each year. Conditions such as obesity and physical inactivity, and behaviors such as consuming an unhealthy diet or using tobacco, are major contributors to heart disease and heart attacks. Approximately two thirds of adults are overweight or have obesity. Obesity can lead to high blood pressure, blood glucose problems (including diabetes), and trouble

sleeping, all of which strain the heart. In addition, just one in five adults meets the current federal recommendations for 150 minutes of moderate activity each week and muscle strengthening two times per week. In observance of American Heart Month, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is encouraging everyone to have a heart-to-heart with their loved ones and plan to make small changes to their diet and behavior to prevent heart disease. Many of the conditions that contribute to heart disease have a genetic component, so learning a family’s health history is an important step toward recognizing a person’s risk for developing heart disease. Quitting smoking, avoiding secondhand smoke, eating foods low in sodium and trans fats, and getting appropriate amounts of physical activity are ways families can incorporate heart-healthy behaviors into their lives.

As a reminder—even though we have received the vaccine—masks, social distancing and hand washing are still required.

Thank you all as we move forward into this New Year!

The Brain Train Teaser “ASSOCIATION”

“Association” is one of the best memory techniques. The more connections you can make to a concept or fact, the more likely you will understand and remember it. In the following exercise, creative thinking helps when you venture “outside the box.” Directions: Find a fourth word which relates to all three given words in some way. Look for connections in meaning, common traits, expressions, associations, images or synonyms.

1. STRIKE SAME TENNIS _________ 2. PARLOR MARK SLEEPING _________ 3. BASE BEACH CANNON _________ 4. FALLING ACTOR DUST _________ 5. CAR TREE ELEPHANT _________ “All Aboard the Brain Train” conductor Judy Herman sends

this teaser for your enjoyment along with hopes that she can see you soon in person. See this month’s Teaser answers on page 7.
