Cmdr. Jim Suber, AP

Here we are in 2020 already. Sounds so

futuristic. The year has changed but the

weather has not. We were able to attend the

75th

Gator Bowl January2nd (which was a night

game) in t-shirts and shorts. Also went to Nights

of Lights in St Augustine, but wore long pants to

that one. The District 23 held its spring council

meeting in Daytona on January 11th

that was

well represented by Jacksonville.

We are having our JSPS Planning Committee

Meeting on January 18th

for 2020. Please give

your ideas to any board member for discussion. The USPS National Meeting is being held in our

backyard at the Marriott Sawgrass February 9-16th

. Our annual Change of Watch will be held on

February 8th

not the 15 as previously published. We hope you will join us!

Not only is December in the rearview mirror, but the entire 10’s are behind us. Even the simple

event of going from the 10s to the 20s has spawned controversy. We’ve got a disagreement over

when the 20s decade begins. Is it 2020 or 2021? Historians claim that the decade begins with the

year zero or for this decade that would be 2020, but there are also some who argue that you can’t

have a zero and you have a decade with years 1 through 10. This point of view says that 2021 will

be the first year of the new decade. Another group says that a decade is any grouping of ten years

no matter what year is chosen as the start point. Just something to think about!

Wow, what a year, with many favorite events and some new ideas. We had our first long distance cruise with a five day trip to Sanford that will be repeated this year. Twenty new members joined us and the demand for the Piloting class was so high that we needed two classes on different nights, forty one members volunteered hundreds of hours and were awarded Merit Marks!

There are many new ideas that have been suggested for the New Year and will be discussed during the planning session. One idea we heard and tried was to mix the venue and menu with sit down service. The first meeting at the Mediterannia Restaurant was an overwhelming success. Over 40 members attended and one new member joined. What a nice way to start the year! Keep communicating your ideas.

Don’t forget Change of Watch is on February 8th. Club Continental is a great venue with an outstanding river view and excellent food. The reservation flyer is included in this newsletter.

ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER REPORT LT/C DONALD ZEISER, S

The holidays are over and we are back to work - planning for the new year, setting goals, and making resolutions to improve and enjoy life on the water more. One of our goals this year is to think outside the box and change up some of the same old things and have more fun. We will have more on-the-water events and training that will improve and expand your boating experiences. Send me your ideas. Our first meeting will be February 8th to install new Officers in the annual Change of Watch. Come join us and bring your ideas for the coming year.

People ordered homes out of catalogs!

Starting in 1908, Sears Roebuck started selling the

The retailer marketed several hundred different
