FEBRUARY 2018 VOLUME 10, ISSUE 7 The HWMS counseling staff will be visiting social studies classrooms the first of Febru- ary to discuss with the current 6th & 7th graders their options and choices for next years class schedule. All 6th/7th graders should be bringing home an enrollment form for you to discuss with them and sign; 6th grade forms are blue and 7th grade forms are pink. These forms HAVE to be returned no later than Mon., Feb. 12th. Failure to return the form on time could result in your child not being enrolled in their priority class choices. Students who are applying to be a member of TEAM WEST must have their applications turned in by Fri., Feb. 23rd. Stu- dents interested in applying for Team West can pick up an application in the counseling office. Campus staff members will be contacting next years Freshman to schedule an enroll- ment conference to discuss their academic schedule for the 2018-19 school year. These meetings will take place on Mon., Feb. 5th and Wed., Feb. 7th from 5-8pm and Thurs., Feb.8th from 7am-11am. A CHS staff mem- ber will be contacting you to set up an ap- pointment. If you do not receive a call to set up an appointment time, all you need to do is go to CHS during one of the time frames listed above and report to the commons area. GAZETTE GORILLA HAYSVILLE WEST MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENT/PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES The HWMS Chapter of National Junior Honor Society will be selecting new members in March. The selection criteria for the NJHS are based on the pillars of scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. There will be an informational meeting for current 6th/7th grade students who meet the minimum 3.5 GPA during guided study. The date for the meeting will be announced to students in early March. Candidate Forms will be available at that time and are due to the HWMS office by the deadline set. Late forms will not be accepted. There will be an Induction/Awards Ceremony to recognize the new members in May. Contact advisor Lisa Slade at [email protected] if you have any questions. Book Fair Dates: Feb 1-7 Shopping hours: During school hours and Student/Parent/Teacher Confer- ences. Your child should have discussed their goals with you and are prepar- ing in class to lead you through these conferences. Upon arrival to HWMS simply visit with any or all of your child/children’s teachers. Once again, we encourage you to attend and make sure to have your child/children accom- pany you to these conferences.     When inclement weather caus-es the school to close, it will be announced between the hours

    of 6:00am and 8:00am on local radio and television stations. USD 261 uses the internet based calling system “School Messenger” to notify patrons of school closings. Howev-er, our system is only as good as the information that you have provided us. Please keep demographic information up to date, the home phone and email address are the contact information that the system utilizes. Simply log on to Powerschool any time to update any demographic changes you may have. All scheduled extracurricular school activities will be cancelled on days when school is closed due to weather when school is closed.
