Message From The Lt. Governor
Laird Smith, Lt. Governor Fellow Kiwanians, It is such a pleasure to travel to each and every club several times a week, in fact after 45 visits I can honestly say I have never met a group of Kiwanians at each club so dedicated to their community…to the children who are our future leaders. We have much to be thankful for and I am very proud of how each and every one of you carry yourself in your meetings and working with the general public. Continue to greet at the door everyone who attends your meetings and projects with a zest for life for you have a true treasure in your fellow Kiwanians! As a Division, we have been very busy recruiting Kiwanians…our # 1 Goal. Our Division is up 39 members, far surpassing other Divisions…The “Membership Challenge” is there for you…the guidelines are described on the following pages. There are two critical things to remember, put you new Kiwanians to work on committees as soon as they join, advance them through to become Board Members and find their passion-you then have a Kiwanian for Life. The second thing to remember is the “Back Door”…that’s called Retention of your members. Reach out to each and every member…get them engaged in activities in your Clubs…check in with them when they miss meetings…Membership is everyone’s responsibility… Our # 2 Goal this year is having every Club develop their own I Plan…this is a strategic business plan for your Club. It is vital that you put a sail to your boat and give it direction. If we are to grow our Clubs, make meaningful contributions to our communities and make a difference in children’s lives, we must focus on what our plans are and how we will get there. You can tie your I Plan into the Club Recognition program and be recognized as a “Distinguished Club” this year. When awards were given out two years ago, just 5 of 15 Clubs earned this prestigious award. I contend that every Club can achieve the “Distinguished Status” this year. Finally, there are a significant number of important activities coming up…most notably, the March 11… March In March around the Kiwanis Family House, a fundraiser…there are details attached. Then there is the Kiwanis One Day Project (s)…Kiwanis Clubs can participate in the month of April…starting April 1 with the Kiwanis Family House. As a Club, you can pick any day, any project and involve any Clubs or Service Leadership Groups and complete your project together. Take a few moments and peruse the Newsletter, some wonderful programs going on in all the Clubs. Thank you for your time and dedication to Kiwanis! Laird Smith, Lt Governor CNH Division 44

Random Acts of Kindness
Laurie Tyrell from the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) asked if Kiwanis could help a family in need at
Christmas. The Random Acts Committee approved the purchase of a $50 gift card for shoes and some of our members
stepped up and provided additional items: Baby things were provided by Tracie, Pam and Pam’s daughter; Kim
shopped for the 10-year-old girl; Lori shopped for the six-year-old girl; Ken T. $50 and Jeff $50. Our club made sure
this family would enjoy their Christmas.
Thank you letter from Laurie
“Thank you Lori, and all of the others who helped make this Christmas special for this family. I have called the
grandmother and she was so surprised to hear that all of you contributed to making this Christmas special. I have
requested that if possible, could she have the kids make a card for the Kiwanis to thank all of you. Thank you for
caring for kids and families of Placer County. Happy Holidays.”
Christmas for Kids
Thanks to a $1000 Grant from New York Life Insurance / Lt Governor Laird Smith, we were able to shop with 25
underprivileged kids selected by Rock Creek Elementary School. Each child received $50 to spend.

Our Key Club was busy during the month of December. They finished a dozen blankets and delivered them to Acres
of Hope kids. They made Christmas cards for a rest home at the last meeting before Christmas break and delivered
them. Pictures of both events are not included because both places did not want them taken. Several Key Clubbers
rang the bell for the Salvation Army and they hosted the December Key Club DCM that was held at the Placer High
Cafeteria. The other events were shopping with underprivileged kids for Christmas for Kids and decorating and
participating in the float for the Festival of Lights parade.
They will be up and running again once school is back in session after the Christmas break on January 3rd. Our next
board meeting will be on January 5th. The following Thursday, January 12th will be our next general meeting at
12:45 in room 617. If you are interested in attending, you need to check in at the office first. We would love to see you
there.
Our Key Clubbers wish to thank the Kiwanis Club for all of your support. We will be gearing up for DCON in
April. The early registration is due the first part of February.

Over 80 Key Club members from Division 44 North and South descended on Granite Bay High School on January 14
for their Annual Conclave. The Key Club Conclave is an annual event where the Key Club member’s delegates vote
for their new Lt. Governor Elect. The current Key Club Lt. Governor is Marisa Wong of the Granite Bay High
School Key Club which hosted the event. The day began with candidates giving speeches, then the delegates cast
ballots to vote for their new Lt. Governor Elect. The new Lt. Governor’s term will begin at the conclusion of DCON
which is April 7-9 in Anaheim. After all the delegates voted, Woodcreek Key Club’s Ryan Hardmeyer was voted as
Division 44 North’s Lt. Governor Elect. An excellent lunch was provided by the Granite Bay Kiwanis club, they
BBQ’d the largest hot dogs we’ve ever seen!

Ryan Hardmeyer Ryan Hardmeyer & Marisa Wong
Hello Everyone!
My name is Ryan Hardmeyer and proudly serve as the Lieutenant Governor Elect of Division 44 North Key Club. I
currently attend Woodcreek High School as a Junior, and I serve as Woodcreek Key Club's Vice President and
D44N's Executive Assistant of Photography and Social Media. Ever since my Freshmen Year in Key Club, I've been
afforded so many opportunities and friendships because of this one-of-a kind organization. I am so excited to inspire
and lead the members of Division 44 North, and I can't wait to work alongside the Kiwanians who make this all
possible. I hope to maintain strong communications and relations between myself and Division 44 Kiwanis, so if at
any time you have questions, comments, or concerns you can contact me at [email protected].
Thank you for all that you do!
Kind Regards,
Ryan Hardmeyer

Valentine’s Cards Sales - January and the first part of February have been busy months! K-Kids made Posters,
Flyers and made morning announcements at school to announce their first fundraiser—selling Handmade
Valentine’s Cards by the K-Kids. The K-Kids sold cards for a 25 Cents each. The proceeds will be donated to the
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Kids had great fun making cards and exchanging ideas. This
fundraising activity helped the kids build skills on how to raise money for a project (SPCA). Task lists were created,
deadlines set and volunteers list were created. And we needed some money to start with.
March for March at the Kiwanis Family House on March 11th - K-Kids are getting pledges for the number of
laps they plan on walk around the Kiwanis Family House. Our goal is to have a minimum of 15 K-Kids and 10
Kiwanians. We are working on getting carpools for the kids as well as the Kiwanians. More details to follow.

Great K-Kids Project Idea!
Contributed by John Seigal
The K-Kids decided to collect pennies and change to help benefit blood cancer research. This program, Pennies for
Patients, is sponsored by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. At the elementary schoo l the K -Kids put up
Posters and handed out Flyers to collect as much change as possible. Over a three-week period, $440.23 in change
was collected. It’s amazing what a room full of dedicated K-Kids can do.
Each classroom kept track of the pennies and change collected. At the end of the three weeks, a pizza party was given
to the class with the most change collected.
Many Corporations, National Charities, and Schools have realized the worth of the penny. These groups have turned
thousands of pennies into real dollars. This is a great way to provide funding for Blood Cancer Research.
