Dear Fisherville Family,
The word “joy” or “rejoice” is found in
Philippians sixteen times. For the next
few articles, I would like us to learn more about
Christian joy by examining these passages.
First, there is the joy of Fellowship; (1:4-5) “…with joy
for your fellowship.”
The word fellowship [Koinonia] means to have in
common. No group has more in common than the
family of God. We have the same salvation;
Heavenly Father, Christ as Savior; indwelling
Holy Spirit; Bible as our guide; and eternal
heavenly home. May we find joy in
fellowshipping with one another.
The second time joy is found, it is the joy of the
gospel being shared; (1:18) “…Christ is
preached; and in this I rejoice, yes and will rejoice.”
The more Christ is shared—the more people are
saved, sins are forgiven, lives are changed,
society is impacted, and Heaven becomes
people’s eternal future. No wonder “Heaven
rejoices” when a sinner repents.”
May we experience more joy by doing everything
we can to get the gospel out.
The third mention of joy is the joy of spiritual
progress in the believers life; (1:25) “…for your
progress and joy of faith.” When we continue to
grow and mature in the Christian faith, we will
experience more spiritual joy. If we “settle” and
become lukewarm, we will certainly lose the
fullness of Christ’s joy. Paul states in (Phil. 3:13)
“Brethren, I do not count myself to have
apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting these
things that are behind and reaching forward to
those things which are ahead.”
Conclusion: Have you lost your Christian joy? Are you
neglecting Christian fellowship? Have you stopped
sharing Jesus? Have you ceased moving forward in
the Christian faith?
Have a joyful February,
Bro. Jack
As we continue our Sunday School
study of the Old Testament book of
Judges, it becomes apparent that
God uses imperfect people as im-
plements of His judgement and His
blessing. While they could not be
considered paragons of ethics or
morality, they were individuals who
were dedicated to the LORD. Again and again
God’s servants fall short in their private and public
thoughts and acts. But the LORD heard the peo-
ple’s cry and raised up judges to bring deliver-
ance to His people.
Ehud, a deceiver; Jephthah, impulsive and impa-
tient; Samson, an infamous womanizer; and Gide-
on, hesitant and lacking in confidence: each one
empowered by the LORD to lead His people at a
time when the people “forsook the LORD, the God
of their fathers… and followed other gods.” Each
of these were dedicated to God and used as an
instrument in His hands. These folks were imperfect
leaders. Through them God revealed that He is
the Savior of the people. Only the LORD is sover-
eign. Only the LORD is Savior.
Imperfect people, dedicated to Him are God’s
chosen instruments to lead others to trust in Him.
Dedicate yourself to allowing God to use you as
His instrument and see what He can do.
Blessings,
Dr. Gary Redding

January 2017 Memorials & Honorariums (12/27/2016-1/22/2017)
From our hearts to yours, thank you for the generous love offering on our departure. The gift from you all will be used to be purchase a fishing kayak in memory of my dad. I hope to resume this hobby very soon. In the January newsletter, I inadvertently left off a name on our reception team thank-you list. Thank you, Lou Goodwin, the Victorian queen of decor, and for all your hard work. We love and appreciate you, Lou, and apologize for the omission. Sincerely, Rick and Carol Marshall
“…See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut…” Revelation 3:8a (NIV)
The time is almost here! As I write this article, I’m in the process of getting ready to move to Fisherville. Roni, Leeanne, Jake, and I are so excited about this new chapter in our lives. From the moment, I received the first email from Gary, I knew God’s hand has been in this and leading us to serve alongside you. The search team has been so wonderful to work with and after the weekend we got to spend with you in January, we already feel that we have family in that church. Thank you so much to all of you who have emailed, and contacted us with such love, support, and encouragement. I hope all of you who are in choir and the praise band will be there for our first rehearsals together and if you’ve been praying and thinking about being a part of one of these groups, come and be another new person in the group with us. What better time to come and be involved? I know from just the short time I got to spend with all of them that they are a group of wonderful people who are incredibly talented. I can’t wait to see what all God has in store for us as we worship
together each week!
