Our lives make an impact, the poem says; be careful the pebbles you cast. Actions have consequences. I remember sitting in the pews of that small West Texas church for his funeral, smashed in with brothers, sister, cousins, aunts and uncles, and so many people and flowers that they seemed to spill out onto the sidewalk. It was as if that day the many ripples my grandfather had created in his life all flowed back in, joining in one great tidal wash of acknowledgement and praise. In the years since, the family has grown and prospered, while also enduring disappointments, disasters, divorce, and disease. Life has churned steadily on, and along the way, many more pebbles have been cast. ough it has become more difficult for the family to gather – too many miles, so many years – I like to think of us all throwing out many pebbles along the way. But I also pray for more than that. Yes, it is important to make a difference, to help others, to contribute. But more important, our intention must be to be made pebbles ourselves, to offer our- selves as objects of our Savior’s choosing, to allow ourselves to be smoothed and honed – sanctified – into the pebbles by which He disturbs the world’s poverty, ignorance, and evil. – Mark From the Pastor

My grandfather, dead now for over 40 years, had a favorite poem. It compares our deeds in life to pebbles that are cast into a pond, disturbing the water’s surface and sending ripples in every direction. Though it has become more difficult for the family to gather – too many miles, so many years – I like to think of us all throwing out many pebbles along the way. But I also pray for more than that. Yes, it is important to make a difference, to help others, to contribute. But more important, our intention must be to be made pebbles ourselves, to offer our-selves as objects of our Savior’s choosing, to allow ourselves to be smoothed and honed – sanctified – into the pebbles by which He disturbs the world’s poverty, ignorance, and evil. – Mark

The Oklahoma Conference of Churches Presents the

31st Annual Day at the Legislature Monday, February 10, 2014 Please join us for the annual Day at the Legislature! This important event is a great opportunity to see the workings of the Oklahoma capitol. Schools, civic organizations and church groups are all encouraged to participate. The 2014 Day at the Legislature will focus on health care and education. We are excited to present Mr. Stan Hupfeld (Integris Health Foundation) as the keynote speaker on health care. Dr. Robert Romines (Moore Public Schools) and Ms. Anna King (National PTA Board) will lead the second session which will focus on education. All speakers will participate in a limited Q&A session. State legislators who serve on committees related to health care and education will join us in the House Chamber for a Q&A session to update attendees on bills pertaining to these important subjects. Attendees can remain in the House Chamber for an Interfaith Prayer Vigil. Legislators and support staff are invited to join us as we pray for our leaders and nation. Lunch (provided by McAlister’s Deli) will be served in the Rotunda (2nd Floor) where the OCC Advo-cacy Award will be presented. Janet Peery (CEO of YWCA of OKC) will conduct the Advocacy Workshop. Peery and invited legisla-tors will present information about Oklahoma’s legislative process. Attendees will learn how to organize and optimize support for or opposition to a bill.

Registration (with coffee /pastries) begins at 8:30 a.m. on the 2nd floor! Free parking is available on the south side of Capitol. Use southeast entrance.

Don’t buy your valentines yet. We will have Blanket Val-entines available for $5.00 on January 26th, Feb. 2nd and 9th. There will be a sample of the valentine on the bulletin board. This valentine purchases a blanket to be sent to those in need here and around the world. We are able to provide the blankets through Church World Service and UMCOR. Please be generous with the money spent on these valentines, as we blanket the world with love.

Does anyone know where the church’s two-wheel dolly can be found? It’s missing and is sorely needed.

Remember we don’t have a full-time janitor. Please don’t leave donut boxes, etc. in the trashcans on sundays. Please take them out to the trash.

BLANKET VALENTINES

It’s a girl!

To Our Lakeside Family, Thank you all for lifting our family in prayer during this time of loss. Your thoughts and cards were very comforting and we have really been loved through this time of grieving. God is good, God bless you! The Davis’, Judy, Tommy and family
