TABLE OF CONTENTS FEBRUARY 2012

NET Inspire Nebraska Campaign Nears Finish Line in Omaha Metro

Although they may feel completely spent, long-distance runners will often experience one fi nal burst of adrenaline and energy when they glimpse

the fi nish line.

In January, NET rounded the corner and glimpsed the fi nish line in Omaha for our fi ve-year, $25 million Inspire Nebraska Campaign. We launched the race in Lincoln, crisscrossed the entire state over the last four years, and are now strategically positioned to complete the campaign in a community that provides us with the largest percentage of our television donors and viewers.

An additional $1.7 million in major and planned gifts from the Omaha region will supply that fi nal burst of adrenaline and guarantee a successful fi nish to NET’s fi rst-ever endowment campaign.

Inspire Nebraska Campaign Honorary Co-Chairs Bill Griffi n and Sharon Marvin Griffi n and I are asking Omaha donors to consider funding several special projects, including:

• opportunities to support Nebraska college and high school sports, including live coverage of Creighton and University of Nebraska-Omaha athletics;

• a new documentary, Great Plains: America’s Lingering Wild, featuring the work of Nebraska photographer Michael Forsberg;

• an educational initiative that will impact north and south Omaha in particular;

• and a general endowment fund that will ensure that Nebraskapublic broadcasting continues to benefi t generations to come.

We have glimpsed the fi nish line and are now asking you to give the Inspire Nebraska Campaign one fi nal shot of adrenaline to hit the $25million mark on schedule in 2012.

Please call me directly at 800-634-6788, ext. 380 if you have questions or if you would like to discuss how you can support the NET Inspire Nebraska Campaign. Thank you for your consideration, and thank you to everyone in Nebraska who has supported this campaign!

NET Television travels 9,000 miles to chronicle the work of Dr. Charles Wood, head of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Nebraska Center for Virology, who, with his Zambian partner

Dr. Chipepo Kankasa, is educating mothers about HIV transmission.

Like Nebraska, the African country of Zambia is in the center of a continent, with a countryside dotted with cornfi elds, villages and gas stations. But that’s where the similarities end. Zambia is in the midst of a devastating epidemic, in which one out of fi ve people in the capitol city of Lusaka is HIV positive.

Hearts of Zambia documents the struggle to combat a deadly enemy, but it’s also a story about much more than disease and death. “Thinking back on the people we met, we realized that what defi nes Zambia is not HIV and AIDs,” says producer Christine Lesiak. “What defi nes Zambia is hope.”

NET Radio and KVNO Radio in Omaha Announce New Partnership

NET RadioSmart Phone App

800-634-6788 • 402-472-9333 • netNebraska.org

NET RadioSmart Phone App

NET Radio and KVNO Radio in Omaha recently announced a new partnership that

will increase effi ciencies for both stations and enhance classical music broadcasting across the state.

“This joint venture is an exciting opportunity for both organizations as we work together to provide statewide public radio and save fi nancial resources,” added NET General Manager Rod Bates.

KVNO Radio is part of the University of Nebraska Omaha’s College of Communication, Fine Arts and Media (CFAM). NET Radio is licensed to the state of Nebraska (Nebraska Educational Telecommunications Commission – NETC).

The partnership between KVNO and NET Radio will expand the audience for KVNO Radio to cover the entire state of Nebraska, while offering NET Radio a strong partner in the Omaha metropolitan area.

“This collaboration will leverage the strengths of both operations,” said Gail F. Baker, Dean of UNO’s CFAM. “NET Radio will help us sustain our current excellence while also expanding our reach.”

Lora Black’s Afternoon Concert and Classics By Request have been simulcast on NET Radio and KVNO daily from 1 to 4 p.m. CT since mid-January. During the overnight hours, Clifford Jones and other KVNO hosts present classical music, broadcast on both NET Radio and KVNO beginning at 10 p.m. CT.

This partnership also answers an important need for business underwriters who want to reach a statewide audience. NET Radio and KVNO will offer special packages to

underwriters whose messages will be broadcast on both stations. For information about how your business can get involved, please contact Susan Dinsmore: [email protected] or 402-470-6371.
