Two pedestrians were walking on the bridge when suddenly they were struck by some kind of darts. These two unsuspecting walkers (not the walking dead) had no idea who fired these darts or exactly where they were fired from. The darts were about five inches in length and were sharpened to a point. California Highway Patrol investigated this incident, and were asking for people who might have information about what happened to contact CHP. I’ve got good news for you: you’re not in San Francisco, you’re not on the Golden Gate Bridge and you’ve not been hit by random darts. I’ve got bad news for you: we’ve been hit by different kinds of darts. Paul tells us these darts were fired by Satan. In his discussion on our spiritual armor, one of the pieces of armor he tells us to take up is the shield of faith, “…with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming missiles of the evil one” (Eph. 6:16). Fiery Darts

Those of you who are older remember Chips. For those of you who are younger, I’m not talking about Dori-

tos! There was a show that came out in 1977 which centered around two motorcycle officers for the California

Highway Patrol. They were CHP’s – Chips we call them. Teachers in here remember Ponch and Jon. I bring up

CHP’s because recently there was an incident on the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, CA. Two pedestrians

were walking on the bridge when suddenly they were struck by some kind of darts. These two unsuspecting walkers

(not the walking dead) had no idea who fired these darts or exactly where they were fired from. The darts were

about five inches in length and were sharpened to a point. California Highway Patrol investigated this incident, and

were asking for people who might have information about what happened to contact CHP. One of their concerns

was whether or not the darts might have been coated in some kind of chemical prior to their firing at the pedestrians

I’ve got good news for you: you’re not in San Francisco, you’re not on the Golden Gate Bridge and you’ve

not been hit by random darts. I’ve got bad news for you: we’ve been hit by different kinds of darts. Paul tells us

these darts were fired by Satan. In his discussion on our spiritual armor, one of the pieces of armor he tells us to take

up is the shield of faith, “…with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming missiles of the evil one” (Eph.

6:16). The KJV says fiery darts.

What kind of fiery darts or flaming missiles does Satan use? There are all kinds of ways he gets us to sin.

the world” (1 Jn. 2:16). Every antic available in the arsenal of the great deceiver will fall under this umbrella that

John mentions.

The difference with these darts or missiles is that they cause damage. With sexual temptations there are

STD’s, unwanted pregnancies, and as Paul says you sin against your own body (1 Cor. 6:18). Remember that

when we are tempted to look at images on the computer or set our eyes on other things we shouldn’t be looking

at, those things are etched into our memory; you can’t unsee what you have seen. Make a covenant with your

eyes (Job 31:1). When we become arrogant we think we are self-sufficient and indestructible, but remember that

the Lord can humble those who walk in pride (Dan. 4:37).

There is no such thing as a harmless dart from Satan. Each one of these has its own trace of chemicals

which poison our spiritual system. We as Christians have to make a courageous effort to resist the devil so he

will flee from us (Jas. 4:7). We’re not walking on the Golden Gate Bridge. We are walking here in Columbia,

TN and rest assured these darts of Satan find their way to us. It’s not if these darts come; it’s what you do when

they come. Brotherly, Jeremy T. Butt
