Alive in Christ: Celebrating the Jubilee Year of Mercy
Women’s Commission Day of Reflection: Saturday, February 27, 2016
at Seton Hall University
This year’s theme is “Alive in Christ: Celebrating the Jubilee Year of Mercy.” The English track will feature keynote speakers Leah Darrow and Sr. Miriam James Heidland, SOLT. They will share their amazing stor ies of mercy, healing and the infinite love of Jesus Christ. Both women were on the path to the good life, achieving dream-like levels of success in their worldly pursuits. Yet both young women realized their success was not bringing true happiness and each was called from the worldly path to radical conversion. The Spanish track will feature key-note speakers Mother Adela Galindo, SCTJM, joined by the musical talents of Kayros. The day runs from 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM, with doors opening at 8:00 AM. Registration is $20. Priests & religious are free. The day includes continental breakfast. Please visit our websites at: www.rcan.org/womenscommission.org (WOMEN)

Catholicism Series: An Opportunity for Enrichment The Community of God’s Love, Rutherford’s Catholic Charismatic Community, invites you to join us for The Mystical Union of Christ and the Church, the sixth epi-sode in the 10-episode series Catholicism by Bishop Rob-ert Barron.
In this episode, Bishop Barron clearly answers the ques-tion “What is the Church?” Traveling to many cities in the world, he explores the Catholic conviction that the life and presence of Christ continues to embrace humanity in all of its joys and sorrows through the presence of the Church.
This film will be shown on Friday, February 19, at Visita-tion House, 70 West Passaic Avenue (Corner of West Pas-saic and Mortimer Avenues) in Rutherford. The evening will include a light supper at 7 p.m., the video at 8 p.m., and will conclude with dessert and discussion.
Questions? Want to register? Call 201 – 935 – 0344 or email [email protected] . Each episode can be enjoyed independently.
February 14 St. Valentine d. 269 This saint's feast day is well known far beyond the Catho-lic Church because of its association with lovers. Cards, gifts, and romantic dinners are timed in his honor. Surprisingly, not that much is known about St. Valentine. He was a priest in Italy and was martyred in 269 outside Rome along the Flaminian Way. A basilica was built there in 350, but a church under his patronage already existed in Interamna (Terni). He may have been bishop there. His relics were transferred in the ninth century to Rome's church of St. Praxedes. There are two main theories why Valentine is linked to lovers. In the 14th century, First, Geoffrey Chaucer wrote a poem suggesting that birds choose their mates on February 14. Second, at the pagan festival of Lupercalia (February 15), names of young men and young women were drawn at random. The feast of St. Valentine may be a Christianized version of this—but now not for random pairings!
Comment: Valentine could have saved his life by denying his Christian faith. He chose to affirm it instead. Self-sacrifice and love are always linked.

In His Hands
Our Father never grows tired of hearing our little voices speak to him in prayer, no matter what time it is. And he will never tune us out, no matter how stupid we think we sound. No need or request is too great for him to fulfill. He’s got the whole world and every aspect of our lives in the palm of his loving hands.
