Lawrence Habitat for Humanity/Operation Rice Bowl - These are both Lenten solidarity programs. Just as we celebrate the Eucharist on Sundays, we can use Operation Rice Bowl or Lawrence Habitat throughout Lent as a way to “break bread” together with the extended family of God. Each year our parish church supports both Catholic Relief Services with the annual Rice

Bowl, and Lawrence Habitat for Humanity This support to either CRS or Lawrence Habitat allows us a concrete way to make our Lenten sacrifices have a tangible outlet. Every time we deicide to eat at home, instead of going out or pass on dessert, the dollars we would have spent can be given to one of these organizations. This makes the corporal works of mercy real and alive in our midst. On Ash Wednesday or on the 1st Sunday of Lent, pick up your Rice Bowl or your envelope for Habitat to use during the season. Bring it back to church with you on Good Friday.

Living Stations of the Cross and Shrimp Dinner - The 3rd graders from our parish school will reenact the living stations

on Friday, March 9th following the evening liturgy. Each year this is a moving reminder by our children of the power of the passion of our Lord Jesus Christ. The whole parish is encouraged and invited to attend. Following the Living Stations the eighth graders of the parish school will host their annual shrimp dinner. All you care to eat shrimp, macaroni & cheese, salad, green beans, rolls and dessert will be served. Tickets are $15 for adults (age 13 and over), $8 for Wisdom (70 and older) and children (age 6-12), and under age 5 are free.

Just Food - Please help to keep the food pantries in Lawrence filled as part of your Lenten

almsgiving. Please remember on the weekends of March 3/4 and April 7/8 to bring your groceries to church. Corpus Christi is responsible for the 1st weekend of every month. But you

may bring non-perishables all during the Lenten season. The re-usable bags are available in the narthex of the church every weekend. Thanks for your almsgiving to the poor in our community.

Ash Wednesday Liturgies and Distribution of Ashes– February 14th

Friday Schedule with Stations of the Cross There will be no morning liturgies on Fridays during Lent. The liturgy is moved to the evening at 5:30 pm, and will be followed by Stations of the Cross. This will allow families to join in this yearly devotion together. The 3rd graders from our parish school will reenact the living stations on Friday, March 9th following liturgy.

Rite of Sending & Rite of Election On Sunday, February 18th at the 10am liturgy, those who will be initiated into the Catholic Church through Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist at the Easter Vigil, will be acknowledged by our community for their readiness for these sacraments. We will send them to the Archbishop where they will join with the other catechumens and candidates to be accepted as the “elect” and candidates. As they continue this faith journey, please remember them in your prayer.

Sacrament of Reconciliation The sacrament will be offered each Saturday at 3:15 pm and every Wednesday during Lent from 6:00-7:00 pm at Corpus Christi and all Catholic parishes in the Archdiocese. Communal penance services are:

March 7 - St. John - 7:00 pm March 9 - Annunciation - 7:00 pm March 13 - Corpus Christi - 6:30 pm

7:00 am 12:00 noon 6:00 pm

Lawrence Area Eucharistic Adoration Lent is upon us. Let us pray diligently to understand God’s will for each of us. “Of all devotions, that of adoring Jesus in the

Blessed Sacrament is the greatest after the sacraments, the one dearest to God and the one most helpful to us.” Saint Liguori

Mission Statement: “With Christ as our teacher, the Corpus Christi Catholic Community will prepare students academically, socially, and spiritually to be lifelong learners in a faith-filled environment.”

CORPUS CHRISTI CATHOLIC SCHOOL EXCELLENCE IN ACADEMICS DISTINCTION IN DISCIPLESHIP 2016 Kansas Governor’s Achievement Award Recipient

Grandparent’s DayGrandparent’s Day was February 1st. The students had the great pleasure of spending time with people who are very important in their lives: grandparents and special guests. Our grandparent’s play a vital role in Catholic education. To our students, these people have been instrumental in their lives and the lives of our school families by being role models and the first teachers to our parents about stewardship and the importance of Catholic schools. Our families instill values and expectations that are rooted in our students. The continued support of our families enables us to teach the Catholic teachings, the sacraments, liturgy, prayer academics and service opportunities to our students. Everyone was welcomed by Fr. Mick, Mrs. Mattern and Mr. Huber at a morning coffee, followed by visits to classrooms. The students were excited to show their work and give a tour of the building. Together, as family, we celebrated liturgy followed by lunch.

Third Grade Goes to the SymphonyThe 3rd graders visited the Kauffman Center On Tuesday, February 6th. The students attended the Kinderkonzert and heard the symphony play "The Science of Sound". Sitting in that beautiful concert hall, seeing all those instruments and experiencing that live music made for a fantastic field trip!

Become a Saint!K-8th grade and Preschool enrollment is currently open to the parish and community. We only have a few slots available in Preschool so don’t hesitate. Please contact the school office for information on enrollment.

Rite of Christian Initiation of AdultsThis Sunday, we celebrate the Rite of Full Communion. RCIA brings together a wide variety of people. Catechumens are those who have not yet been baptized, and will receive the sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. Candidates for Full Communion are those baptized in a Christian denomination, and will receive the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist through the Rite of Full Communion. We encourage every Catholic to participate, to learn more, to renew your faith. We meet on Thursdays, 7:00-8:30 pm. If you are a baptized Catholic who, for some reason, have not received the sacrament of Confirmation, contact Sister Doris. Topics: February 15: Sacrament of Matrimony February 22: Sacrament of Holy Orders

Family Formation Our Family Formation program combines children’s faith formation and adult faith formation for parents. It is a great way for parents to refresh their faith while experiencing presentations on the same topics as their children. This program is for families whose children attend any of our public/private/home schools, PreK-6th grade. Child care is provided for children younger than 3. Next classes:

• February 28 Topic: Anointing of the Sick • March 7: Ten Commandments

First Communion Mark Your CalendarsFor families in Family Formation:

• First Communion Review (for children and parents), Wednesday, March 14, 6:30 pm. For all families with children preparing for First Communion:

• 1st Communion Retreat: Saturday, April 7, 9:00 - noon • 1st Communion: Sunday, April 8, 10:00 am

Dad’s March Madness! This year we have our own madness that will be going on around the school and parish. Thanks to Greg & Kristin Maurer and Dale Willey Automotive, we have been given the gift of a car to raffle off with all of the proceeds going to the parish school. In determining the best way to maximize this generous gift we decided to recruit some Dad’s (Grandads and friends of the school) and set them up with a little friendly competition. So beginning next week on February 1st, Five Teams will be going head to head to sell the most tickets.

Team #1 is headed up by Jesse Williams (known as the El Caminos) with team members: Kevin Newkirk, Richard King, Robert Gorman and Toby Eastland. Team #2 is headed up by Justin Anderson (known as The Anointed) with team members: Ryan Kruse, Tom Dobski, Scott Solomon and Dave Mattern. Team #3 is headed up by Jeff Glasgow (known as Mission from God), with team members: Tom Devlin, Richard Valbuena, David Grosko and Tom Stewart. Team #5 is headed up by Riley Scott (known as Busted Halos) with team members: Andy Holtz, Matt Krische, Justin Tourtillott and Brady Flannery. These teams will be battling it out all over Lawrence. If someone approaches you - make sure they are the team that you wish to back! There will be a weekly total of the tickets sold by each team in the weekly school newsletter. These teams have until March 15th to see who can sell the most. The winning team will be guests of honor at a steak dinner held at the rectory, hosted by Fr. Mick and Mrs. Mattern. They will be served this feast by the other teams! Root for these guys for the next few weeks, and thank them when you see them for the time and effort they are putting into this rivalry for the benefit of all of our students. Let the MADNESS begin!

Last Year’s PalmsThe blessed palms you received last year on Palm Sunday (or if you have a few years of blessed palms around the house) can be brought to the church this weekend and next. These palms will be used to make the ashes for Ash Wednesday to mark the beginning of the season of Lent. Leave your old blessed palms in the baskets near the narthex table in the church.

Ash Wednesday ScheduleWednesday, February 14th marks the beginning of the season of Lent. There will be three liturgies that day to accommodate all schedules. The first liturgy will be at 7:00am. This liturgy will allow for those whose work or school schedule makes for a busy day. There will be no music at this liturgy so that everyone may get to work or school on time. There will also be 12 noon and a 6:00 pm liturgies in the church. In addition, the church will be open throughout the day to allow for you to come and place the ashes on your own forehead.
