Martin Luther King Jr. was an American clergyman, activist, and prominent leader in the African American civil rights movement. He is best known for being an iconic figure in the advancement of civil rights in the United States and around the world, using nonviolent methods following the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. King is often presented as a heroic leader in the history of modern American liberalism.

A Baptist minister, King became a civil rights activist early in his career. He led the 1955 Montgomery Bus Boycott and helped found the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1957, serving as its first president. King's efforts led to the 1963 March on Washington, where King delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech. There, he expanded American values to include the vision of a color blind society, and established his reputation as one of the greatest orators in American history.Continued on next page…

Martin Luther King, Jr. (Continued from first page.)

Here is an excerpt (selected pieces) from “I Have A Dream” speech.I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident; that all men are created equal." I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today. I have a dream that one day down in Alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of interposition and nullification, that one day right down in Alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers. I have a dream today. I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exhalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.Researched by CJ Hagen

Chapter 1 The Twins[Sophia’s POV (Point of View)]My name is Sophia Griffin. I am 11 years old and 5’1”and a half. I have a boy twin who is WAY more popular than me. He has blonde hair with a red stripe in it, and I have brown hair with a blue stripe. No, we did not get our hair dyed. We were told we were both born like that, but since we’re adopted, no one knows if that’s true. I should tell you that my brother’s name is Drew. We’re close. Yet, at school everyone acts like we aren’t related, because we are on the polar opposites of the popularity chart, with me at the bottom. The only time anyone remembers we’re related is when he protects me. I’m the younger twin. Also, there’s these random girls in love with him, that try to pick a fight with me when he’s not around. Especially after the talent show. You see, Drew and I are FANTASTIC singers (and gamers!) We duet at every one and get 1st place. The girls I was talking about usually lose, and blame me. One of them, Kat, always forgets we’re twins and shouts in my face,

“I can’t believe he loves you more than me!”“No, really, he loves his TWIN SISTER more than you?” I reply.

Valentine’s Day Myths 1.St. Valentine was one man

ANSWER: No. The holiday honored Christian martyrs Valentine of Rome and Valentine of Terni.

2.Valentine’s Day has always been about loveANSWER: Valentine’s Day was not always about love.

The men that were honored on the day were not even related or connected to love. Originally, the day was strictly meant

for honoring the martyrs.3.Men always forget Valentine’s Day

ANSWER: They may forget, but men in the United States spend around twice as much as women on Valentine’s Day.

4. Everyone loves Valentine’s Day ANSWER: The Hindu religion explicitly discourages Valentine’s Day. Certain activists denounce it as

cultural pollution from the West. The opposition often results in clashes between die-hard religious activists and shopkeepers who sell Valentine’s Day stuff. Also, the sale of Valentine’s Day items is banned in Saudi

Arabia. 5.Valentine’s Day is the same everywhere

ANSWER: In Norfolk, a Valentine’s tradition is that “Jack” Valentine leaves candy and presents it on the back porch for the kids. In Slovenia, Valentine’s Day marks the start of working in the fields. And in

Maringa, Japan, it is customary for women to give chocolate to their male coworkers.By Eliza Partika

He saves me every time. I’m not sure what I would do without him. Right now, we’re home alone because our adoptive parents left to a party (that they’re stuck at because of a terrible storm)

and their biological child, Kristina, is stuck at a play date (she’s six, what do you expect?) Drew and I told them this storm was coming, but they went with their plans anyway because it was sunny all day.“No, really, he loves his TWIN SISTER more than you?” I reply.

Drew said, “We told them this would happen. They never listen, do they?”I replied with, “Never do, never will.”“At least we don’t have to deal with them right now…”“What’ya thinking?”“Why our REAL parents left…”We were playing Mario Kart Wii, and since Drew was lost in thought, he got creamed.“I call the top bunk! No buts, no ands, no ors!!!” I yelled and started running.“How about NO FAIR?!?!” He shouted back. And so a very long game of “chase” began. I still got the top bunk. He still got

Two hundred soldiers burst into the room and surrounded Jennifer. Jennifer screams angrily at Draco, “You are going to die here and now after I kill all your soldiers Draco!”

Draco calmly replied, “You are then going to die today Jennifer.”

Next thing Jennifer knew, twenty royal soldiers of the highest ranking charged viciously at her with halberds. She lunged at one of them and cut his legs off with a slash of her daggers. Three turned and sliced at her but just in time she jumped into the air and they sliced each other in half killing themselves instantly. The other sixteen of the royal soldiers charged at Jennifer. She landed on the ground and one stabbed her in the leg. The others were killed by stabbing each other by accident while trying to kill Jennifer. She was still able to move her leg after being stabbed there. She then sliced the soldier’s head off that stabbed her and then screamed, “I’m going to kill you all!” in pain.

Jennifer jumped into the air and lunged at a soldier in mid-air killing him within seconds. She was surrounded by one hundred soldiers at that point. She put her arms out and spun in a circle into a group of enemies killing off fifty of them and becoming dizzy for a few seconds. That moment a soldier lunged at her, pinned her down, and knocked her weapons down onto the ground far away. Then the soldier procceeded to scream to Draco victoriously, “Lord Draco I have got Jennifer pinned down and disarmed. What should I do to her?”

Draco replied happily, “Kill her now before she gets up!”

While the soldier’s attention was towards Draco, she punched him in the face and got up. He lunged at her and she got him in a chokehold from behind and the snapped his neck before he could plead for his life and took his sword. She looked around for a halberd from one of the royal soldiers she killed and located two of them. She charged for the first one killing of twenty soldiers in the process, picked it up, and charged for the second. She then had to make her way through forty soldiers to get the second. There was only forty soldiers left, Jennifer, and Draco. She saw her daggers in Draco’s hands that she knew she should get. She screamed furiously, “If you soldiers don’t leave you will be destroyed by me!”

The soldiers were scared off by Jennifer. It was now just her and Draco left to battle to the death. She screamed at Draco, “Let go of my daggers you monster!”

(Continued from page 5) Draco replied full of rage, “You are going to die for what you have done to my soldiers and royal soldiers!”

“Those aren’t so easy to train and you shall now die by your own daggers!”

Jennifer replied enraged, “We will see who will die today Draco!”

“Now lets stop talking and battle!”

Jennifer put the sword she picked up from a soldier she killed, attached it to her back, and drew the halberd. She then ran to get another when Draco charged at her and sliced her left arm injuring Jennifer deeply. She swung her halberd at him and barely missed his neck.

Draco threw one of her daggers at her and missed. Jennifer cautiously proceeded to pick it up and got it. She then got a solid gold tipped spear while Draco picked up a halberd of his own. Jennifer and Draco stared at each other for a brief minute then charged at each other. They clashed halberds and Jennifer got Draco’s arm. While Draco was looking at his arm Jennifer threw her spear and Draco and barely missed. She and Draco charged again at each other viciously and Jennifer was barely cut by Draco’s halberd. Jennifer threw her sword and got Draco in the neck and Draco fell down, wounded badly. While Draco was screaming in pain Jennifer drew her sword, ran to where Draco was lying, and kicked Draco’s halberd out of his hands. Draco then screamed in pain, “ Kill me now! ”

Jennifer replied smiling, “With pleasure” She raised her sword into the air and decapitated him.
