In the first chapter of Acts, verse 8, Luke records Jesus’ words right be-

fore His ascension:

” …you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and

you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea, and Samaria and to

the end of the earth”.

The message to the disciples, and us, is about the work that we have

been called to do, and about the tools we have been given to get this

work accomplished in Christ’s name.

As we look at the Acts 1:8 passage we hear about how the disciples were

to be witnesses for Christ in all sorts of places. Places that seem far

away to us, but for them it was sort of like their city, county, state, coun-

try, and the rest of the world. So how do we look at this passage when it

comes to the work we have been given to do? Unfortunately, sometimes

I don’t think we give it much thought.

If we do, we feel that we do a good job of the “ends of the earth” with all

the support for our synod’s missionaries in faraway places. But, what

about everywhere else? For the disciples, it was Jerusalem, Judea, and

Samaria. For us, wouldn’t it be Omaha, Nebraska, and the U.S.A.?

Living H2O Lutheran Campus Ministry is one of the local ministries that is

working on Christ’s commission to being a witness locally in our version

of Jerusalem…

Please keep these hometown missionaries in your prayers.

Blessings,

Don L. Bader, Executive Director

Today’s altar flowers are given to the glory of God by Duane and Dot Fieck for all their blessings during over 65 years of marriage.

An Appreciation: Thanks to Care Ministries for your thoughtfulness in hosting the 90th birthday coffee. Thanks especially to those persons who could attend; May the Lord Bless and keep You in His Hand. Leon Rottmann

Social Ministry Notes: There is a great need for "Winter Woolies"- hats, gloves, scarfs, warm socks for men, women, and children. Place new or gently used items in the bin in the narthex. They will be delivered to area homeless shelters at the end of February.

Our Lenten Journey for 2017 — From the “Ripping of Cloth” on Ash Wednesday to the shouts of “Praising People” on Palm Sunday to the “Pounding of the Hammer” on Good Friday, our Midweek Lenten and Holy Week Sermon Series for 2017 will be: “The Sights and Sounds of Christ’s Passion.” Plan now to join us each week at 2pm or 7pm. Also featured will be a “He did this for me cross,” where worshippers throughout Lent can nail their sins of thought, word and deed. This will be our visual reminder that Christ’s Passion was for “me.”

The 2017 Sunday Altar Flower Chart is located on the coatroom bulletin board. Cost to sponsor a Sunday is $25.

If you need to receive gluten-free communion wafers or alcohol-free wine, contact pastor, an elder, or an usher, for Sunday and Wednesday communion (and visitation to shut-

ins).

Severe Weather Cancellation Policy for Pacific Hills

Lutheran Child, Youth, and Adult Education Programs:

During bad weather conditions, monitor the TV or radio school closing listings. If it is announced that Omaha Public Schools day or evening classes/activities are canceled due to weather, the education programs at Pacific Hills will also be canceled. Pacific Hills will not be listed in the closings and you will not be personally notified. This policy does not apply to worship services. Use your good judgment to stay safe. If classes and activities are not officially canceled but you feel conditions are unsafe, please do not feel compelled to attend.

The tour will depart on October 24, 2017, and return on November 4, 2017. In preparation for this tour Pastor spent several days in Germany with a dozen pastors from across the country in the fall of 2015. Brochures are available in the church office.

P.H.A.T. Sunday is coming in two weeks! It is time to

get "Pacific Hills All Together" and feast on fellowship and a great breakfast. On Sunday, February 26, we will have a Pot-luck Breakfast at 9:15am. We want all 8am worshipers to stay late and all 10:30am worshipers to come early for a big celebration before Lent. Beverages will be provided. Bring your favorite breakfast items and family and don't miss the fun.
