How many times a day do we say “dear/darling/valued”? All of us do it, certainly, but the frequency varies from

one person to another.

It does not matter how many times you bombard a person with these adjectives, what truly matters is do we really mean it? If there is no sincerity, passion, energy or blaze in the statement, there will be no value.

These words should reflect our sincere feelings towards the person who will receive those words. Are we as senders, mean it? Love is more than just words. It is each single action we do towards the other person. That person is not only a lover; s/he is the world for us. Our mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, wives, husbands, friends, sons, daughters and before all of them, on the top of the list, is the Almighty Allah. We love God for making us what we are today, enlightening our path to take us onto the right path and putting such wonderful people along to enrich our lives with happiness and achievements.

We were guided to join Toastmasters where we learn the art of expressing positively and properly our feelings and views without the need to articulate them. Many recent events have proved our sincerity. Our concerns towards TM Khalid Amin’s health, our delightedness for TM Hussain Sayed, TM Neelesh Man Sing Paradan and TM Faheem Khan for being blessed with three little angels, and last but not least, our passion to attend each meeting and share wonderful moments with our Toastmasters family. This is love and this MTM.

Let us be sincere and reflect that love in our actions. Let us attend meetings regularly; prepare well for our assignments; provide fellow members with helpful and constructive evaluations; treat our fellows and guests with respect and courtesy; and adhere to the guidelines and rules for all Toastmasters educational and recognition programmes.

Make it full of energy and say it sincerely in the right time, place and to the right people. “I love you”. I love you MTM for everything you did, are doing and will do for me in the future. I just LOVE MTM.

Large organizations like the Toastmasters international have

great talented members and they all have one thing in comment and that’s sharing their knowledge and skills they gain through their life with their family members in Toastmasters.

Toastmasters, is the one of the greatest organizations. It helps the individuals personally grow and develop their Knowledge Management skills.

Knowledge Management can be described in many ways, but the definition that seems the best is “the process of capturing and sharing a community’s collective expertise to fulfill its mission.” Knowledge Management takes advantage of the organization’s most valuable assets — the collective expertise of its members/employees and partners and that’s what we can see and witness from joining the Toastmasters.

When I had my Marketing Workshop Marathon in GCC and Jordan I became the leader I always whished to be.

In Jordan, I learned the art of making useful assumptions and that assumptions determine behavior

and behavior produces experiences and experiences reinforce initial assumptions and the challenge with assumptions is to make useful ones rather than limited ones. A useful assumption gives you enough perspectives about your own behavior and the behavior of others that lead to worthwhile outcomes.

At the workshop in KSA I learned the way of leading others with inclusiveness and compassion. The leaders in KSA planed the workshop in such a way that it met the members needs by recognizing each person’s greatest value. I was one of them, I learned that by looking beyond the obvious and seeing others with insight and compassion, we can be great leaders. Many great leaders in history have admitted that they rose to the top because another leader recognized them and harnessed their potential. I don’t want to talk about flying from one location to another in KSA but it was the best, and all I remember is that I did sleep for 5 hours only during my 3 days trip, but my rest was in Jeddah where I set defining goals and follow concrete action plans for my upcoming workshops.

In Kuwait the story was different as I had to talk in 2 different languages; Arabic and English; but the different that I gain in my personality is to listen and to go deep in planning and there are at least 3 great reasons to do this.

First, people want to be heard and understood when they talk. Second, people like to hear themselves talk; especially shy people, who may like it so much they save it for special occasions! Let them talk; you get some credit for their enjoyment. Third, people are drawn to people who listen. The most effective leaders, managers, parents and teachers are great listeners, and the result is that they can respond to what’s going on sooner than those who weren’t listening. But the most compelling reason to listen well is that often, people don’t know what they’re talking about. This accounts for all the ironic and paradoxical communications that you hear. If they don’t know what they’re talking about and neither do you, listening well gives both of you a chance to find out.

was a bit different. Why? Because I felt it was at home. The TM family members in UAE taught me to have a clear vision of myself, others, and the world simply by knowing, who are you? What do you stand for? What is your life purpose? How do you want to influence others? How do you want to contribute to yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, and the world? Answer these questions to formulate a concrete vision of yourself and your world. Then, start living your life as the leader who makes your vision a reality.

But my trip to Oman was indescribable. The arrangement of the workshop, dinner and attending the conference of the immediate past president of India was a great show. What I learned from my family members in Oman was the art of “Know Your People/members.” You have to know your people. You have to know what makes them happy. You need to know something about their personal lives because their lives outside TM and work matter. Their lives outside of Toastmasters drive a great deal of their success. Keep track of simple things: birthdays, marriages, children, etc. The more you know your fellow TM’s, the more common ground you’re likely to find, the more you’ll be able to connect.

I’ll put the workshops, Qatar and Bahrain, together. Why together? Because I conducted the District Marketing workshop in Bahrain in the morning, and then I went to Qatar to deliver the same workshop at 7:00pm in the evening. It was fun, and proved the one thing I’m proud of in my personality, and the most important single-factor in individual success. It is COMMITMENT. The hospitality in both venues were great and I’m thankful to my family members in both countries for all that they did to make it a great event.

Out of our District, I had an invitation to be a keynote speaker at District 71 that is located in the United Kingdom. The event was a great art

and the event location which is at York made it the best location for a fantastic celebration called District 71 conference, and that’s for a great reasons starting from the outstanding arrangements into the opening of the events, but what’s SPECIAL about the opening, well all the attendees should go a big shop were they have to select there desire costume for the opening, and during the opening the best costume will win a prize, waw it was a great evening and on the next day I had to deliver my talk in the important of PR and media to brand the Toastmasters movements, but been someone from outside District 71 I had the privilege to give a toast in behave of Toastmasters International at District 71 conference and that makes me so happy, but the most valuable thing that I learn, I didn’t feel that I’m from outside my district, the beautiful of Toastmasters is wherever you are, you will always feel like home because the toastmasters is a world wild family which will welcome you at any time and anywhere.

Now you know how I became a Millionaire, not by money but by friends and family members, you too can become a Millionaire. But what you have to do is to hold on to your dream and I’m sure it will sweetens all your nights, brighten up your days and become a reality. Dreams are a compass that shows only one aspired direction.

Success, success and more success is what you should aim for.

ACB/CL Isaac Mathew coordinated the club’s International Speech Contest on Saturday, 6 February 2010. TM Zahra Hubail, in coordination of other researchers (Dr. Lama Sakhnini, Dr. Abdulla AbdulRasool, Lecturer Ebtisam Bin Butti & Dr. Maheen Dairi (presented their new experiment). Germination and growth tests were carried out under laboratory conditions to study the effect of the exposure of maize seeds to stationary magnetic fields of 100 mT and 200 mT. The exposure time was 48 hours. After treatment with magnetic field, each seeding was planted in 20 centimeters plastic pots containing. Total soluble proteins were determined by standard Hartree – Lawry assay from homogenized tissues in phosphate buffer saline.

The influence of a stationary magnetic field on the initial stages of maize plant development was evaluated. A stationary magnetic field has a stimulating effect on the first stages of growth of maize seeds for all fields studied. When germinating maize seeds were subjected to magnetic fields of 100 mT and 200 mT for 48 hours. Increases in length and weight were observed. There was no pronounced effect on the weight and length of the plants after growth of four weeks. Total soluble protein content of roots and blades is affected by magnetic fields. This effect is dosage dependant in both blades and roots tissues.

In the presence of Division K Governor DTM Alex Ginete and more than 30

attendees, Manama Toastmasters club inducted its new executive committee for the January-June 2010 term. The installation ceremony included the former President and VP-Education’s progress and achievements report for July-December 2009 where the slogan was “Managing with Mind and Motivating with Heart”.The club achieved the Smedley award for inducting 6 new members in 3 months, two joint meetings with Bahrain and Vision TMS clubs, attainment of 6 DCP points. In addition, an electronic MTM club member’s profile booklet was developed and circulated internally.The club website was enhanced, invitation SMS message system was invented, KPMG Toastmasters club was sponsored by MTM, and happily celebrated its 45th anniversary. In addition, DTM Khalid Al-Qoud organized a special desert camp for all Bahrain’s toastmaster clubs.Last term’s achievements were as follow:

The total number of meetings held were 25 including the SAGM, out of which a total of 46 prepared speeches were given. There were a few special theme nights such as, “Ramadhan Dishes” By TM Afaf Zaineabedin and “Eid Celebration” by TM Thuraya Juma, , where the Master of ceremonies enlightened us with their innovations. In addition we had some educational presentation, among which one education speech was given by Dr. Usha Devarajan from Debate Club who delivered an Educational Speech about “Impromptu Speaking” and another educational speech by Mr. Yousif Kindi, Head of IT at the

Sit back and relax – one cannot listen if one is not relaxed. One cannot learn if

one is not relaxed.

Multiple Intelligences (M.I.) – just what is M.I.?

First of all – what is intelligence? Many experts consider intelligence as a plural noun. Basically, intelligence is the ability to successfully complete a task. So it’s a set of abilities. The standard IQ test was introduced in the early 1900’s and used extensively throughout the western world. However, the IQ test focused mainly on linguistics (language), logic (number patterns and sequences) and mathematics . The test is not considered universally suitable across cultures and gender and so is of limited value.

Then in the 1960’s and 1970’s, there was an interest in cognitive theories and the understanding of how the brain functioned in the learning process. This was explored in considerable depth especially in the fields of education and psychology.

In 1983, a Harvard Professor Howard Gardner challenged the traditional measure of intelligence and introduced the concept of multiple intelligence based on a person’s “smarts”.

His perhaps well-known quote is that “It’s not how smart you are but how you are smart”. His seven smarts included word smart, logic smart, picture smart, body smart, music smart, people smart and self-smart.

Now what do these “smarts” or intelligences actually mean.

These seven “smarts” were then expanded to include naturalist or

environmentalist which included the ability to understand and interact with the natural environment.

But the question is where do we fail? We still focus heavily on the linguistic, mathematical and logic, and visual – spatial areas. This is reflected in the preferred professions such as medical doctor, engineer and lawyer. There is a significant correlation between your preferred intelligences and possible career paths as seen in the following image.

In addition to one’s personal intelligence, one needs to identify one’s learning style. Does one learn better through audio or listening methods, visual methods or kinesthetic or hands-on learning style.

The 21st century teaching style needs to embrace the multiple intelligences of the students as well as their preferred learning style(s). In addition to these components, one also needs to activate whole brain learning. We need to work hard not just favouring right-brain or left brain learning but to use some brain gym exercises that will stimulate the while brain. But that’s for another speech.

Ending a sentence with “at”We’ve all been admonished, “Never end a sentence with at.” True, there are times when you definitely should not; but there are also times when you should. It’s common to hear “Where is he at?” That’s simply wrong,

but not for the reason most think. You may think it’s because “at” is a preposition and “you shouldn’t end a sentence with a preposition*.” But that’s not the reason. It’s merely because “at” in the sentence above is a redundancy. “Where is he?” says exactly the same thing, so adding “at” is simply superfluous. And your goal should be to have no unnecessary words. However, there are times when “at” is desirable at the end of a sentence. If you see someone looking at you, snickering, what are you

going to say: “What are you laughing at?” Or, would you say “At what are you laughing?” I’d choose “What are you laughing at?” any day.

Comma before “and”?Which is correct: “The flag is red, white, and blue” or “The flag is red, white

and blue”? Actually, both are acceptable. However, as a general practice the recommended business style is to use the comma before “and.” This comes straight

from the Gregg Reference Manual, my favorite grammar dispute settler. According to Gregg: “When three or more items are listed in a series and the last item is preceded

by and, or, or nor, place a comma before the conjunction.” However, many newspapers and magazines prefer the “non-comma” style, and that is also acceptable. But what is not acceptable is

to use both styles intermittently. Pick one style and stick with it. Otherwise, you look careless.

Affect or effect?Most of the time, affect is a verb and effect is a noun. However, this is only a “most-of-the-time” guide,

since affect can at times be a noun and effect can at times be a verb. But, instead of confusing the issue with exceptions that are rarely used, I’ll concentrate on the most common uses. Affect

is almost always a verb meaning “to influence or change.” Use it this way: “Will this affect my performance review?” Effect is almost always a noun meaning “result.” Use it this way: “We need to address the effect of your

behavior.”

“I” or “me”?Which is it: “Donna loves pizza more than I” or “Donna loves pizza more than me”? It depends on what point you are trying to make. If you’re

trying to say she loves pizza more than you love pizza, then “Donna loves pizza more than I” is correct since the implied phrase is “…than I do.” But,

given a choice between you and a pizza, if Donna chooses the pizza (tough break, by the way), then “Donna loves pizza more than me” is correct since the

implied phrase is “…more than she loves me.”

I found this letter attached on the up left side of my physics workbook when I

was in my second year of the high school. I read this letter many time as I did not believe that it was written to me. Needless to say, tears streamed down my eyes because these words touched me in such a profound and emotional way. This teacher has shown me that I am significant. She has shown me who really I am.

That stage of my life was a particularly hard. I was little bit a down and contraction mood but that letter made it worth the struggle. I needed to hear those words. Those words were really nourishment for my very fragile and weary soul. This teacher teaches the emotion of being forward, upward and outward. So I started to think about my future and I promised her that I will do whatever I can do.

A year later I graduated from high school and I decided to major in biology. Then I entered university with all my passion and enthusiasm for learning. I was a tough, serious and straight “A” student throughout my five years of university.

As a result of being a hard working “A” student, I was granted three opportunities during the summer periods for studying and training aboard. The first one was

for scientific research training at Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research. The second one was for representing my graduation project in a scientific forum at Sultan Qaboos University in Oman. The third one was a grant from the U.S. Embassy to study English and to attend a plant landscaping course with biology students in the United States.

These experiences were both enjoyable and enlightening, they reinforced my intense interest in biology and research work. It allowed me to extend my goals of continuing studies toward a master’s degree in medical biotechnology.

In the end, I believe that words of love can make you do things that you never thought possible. Thanks to God for allowing me to be a student with such an amazing teacher.

Toastmaster life Style

Up to about eight years of my childhood, it was the most

affected period because it was so bad and I could not hide my inability to speak. Having wanted to mingle with my friends at that age and having wanted to play with them, I was going behind them, but unfortunately I was the easily picked up one for bullying not for playing.

If I stood up in class to answer a teacher’s question, I could hardly utter three words without stuttering. My life was shattered and I withdrew into isolation and quietness, not knowing what to do.

Perhaps now you can imagine how serious it was. But I had a certain determination; I thought I would never give up. For every problem there is a solution.

Looking at the brighter side of it, I had a dream of speaking in front of a crowd with confidence no matter how many people or what the event was. I felt it more than you want it. May be, because of that human nature, we value more, what we do not have.

My ultimate goal is to become a

confident speaker and I began to work slowly towards educating myself to reach to that goal. During my college years in U.K. and USA I attended many courses on how to overcome stuttering which helped to boost my self-confidence.

I picked up some confidence and since then I have been battling to overcome my most formidable opponent, my stuttering, it took my 10 long years to come to this level of speaking. This off course with the help of Manama TM.

When I deliver my Icebreaker speech in year 2000 it was with difficulty, but there were lot of Toastmasters who were ready to take my hand and walk my speech with them all the way. Today on my special day I thank you all.

You have become the key people who have touched me in my journey to «overcome my problem. Manama Toastmasters holds a special place in my heart. Believe me through you friendly support I have been able to wipe out my stuttering problem, which I call the biggest problems I suffered in life.

Famous people who stuttered like Winston Churchill and Marilyn Monroe. If you recall, both spoke in a very slow deliberate way. In Marilyn’s case, it is pretty amazing to discover that her speaking style was taught to her by a speech coach to help control her stuttering. Winston Churchill coped with it by preparing his speeches weeks in advance before delivering his speech at the British parliament, the techniques we learn in Toastmasters.

As it is written in our holy Quran, prophet Moses when asked by Allah to go to the pharaoh, Moses asked Allah to accompany his brother Haroun with him because he told Allah that his stuttering might weaken him in front of Pharaoh Ramses. But look what happened: Moses, an ordinary Hebrew won over the Pharaoh.

We must do more than simply hope, we must believe in our self. When we desire with belief it can happen. Yet we must take action.

Life has meaning only in the struggle; Glory or Defeat is in the hands of God.
