Short Mat Bowls Bob Redding remembered Bob Redding lived in Cox Green Lane and was involved in establishing the Community Centre when it moved from its former site at the Victory Hall. He was also a founder member of the Cox Green indoor Bowls Club and its first Chairman. Sadly Bob died in 2008. His family kindly donated a memorial trophy to the short mat bowls club, which was asked to devise a competition that was more than a normal bowls match and reflected Bob’s sense of fun. The result was three games involving target bowls with obstacles, skittles and target bowls with a need to keep your score low. How fitting that the first winner of the trophy should be Ron Oseman who, along side Bob, was involved with the old Memorial Hall in Cox Green Lane and establishing the Community Centre.

Ron Oseman receives the Bob Redding Memorial Trophy from

Bob’s Granddaughter Frances. Winners of the Bob Redding Memorial Trophy

2010 Ron Oseman 2011 John Barker 2012 Jean Cooper 2013 Gordon Wheeler 2014 Ron Mitchison

Have you seen the bowls on TV and fancied testing your skills? Why not come along and give short mat bowls a try right at the Cox Green Community Centre. Sessions are held Monday and Thursday afternoon 2.30 to 4.30 and Monday evening 7.30 to 9.30. Turn up just before the session time with some clean flat shoes or slippers. The club have various sizes of bowls for you to try. The afternoon sessions are usually busy and the evening session is quieter. Session fees are very modest. Go on give it a try.

COX GREEN

LUNCHEON CLUB Everyone at the Tuesday Luncheon Club would like to say a BIG THANK YOU for the support we get from the local community. It seems a long time ago now but our Christmas Celebrations were a real community event we were entertained with Christmas music by Lowbrook Academy and Cox Green School, the party was funded and food served by Johnson & Johnson staff and some of the raffle prizes were donated by the Wessex Way shops thank you all.

We are most grateful for the grants and donations we received from Cox Green Parish Council, The Maidenhead Advertiser Cracker Appeal, Waitrose, Milan and Johnson & Johnson. These enable us to meet our weekly costs, whilst keeping charges to members at a reasonable rate. We have also been able to arrange some extra special events for members to enjoy thanks to this financial help which is greatly appreciated.

There are still some vacancies for members contact Ruby 01628 630703 if you or someone you know would like to join us. The club is open to people aged 60+ living within the parishes of All Saints, Maidenhead, The Church of the Good Shepherd, Cox Green, and St Edmund Campion RC Church, who would enjoy a freshly cooked two course meal, at a reasonable cost, in a friendly atmosphere so why not come along one Tuesday you will be sure of a warm welcome.
