Cynthia:ACTION: Tech Plan in MS Word to Cynthia.

Program Assessments: FREEAvailable for media and tech programs. Systemic. Provides feedback from outside source.Assessing 21st Century and Learning.(in accordance with state golds and esty standards) Feedback and criticism…Takes several days for larger system. Smaller would be a daylong event.

Macrell? New standard for assessment.Leadership, AMTR,

Race to the Top – Cloud computing available for the state…

School Technology CommissionChanged – DPI used to report to them. Now they are an advisory group to DPI. (DPI connection back to the legislature.(for funding)

CIPA requires blocking against adult sites, - not what you are blocking but that you are blocking.

ING – social networking for our Middle grades.!!!!!!! Come up with something to provide a safe environment for OUR students….Great IDEA!!

Lunch and Learn for Media Coordinators:EBSCO, NCWISE Owl training, panel discussions, using online media, cloud computing, new essential standardsAMTR Reporting!!!!! These are due NOW!!!

Email Cynthia with topic ideas – for tech facilitators and media coordinators

MacKrell or the ones for media and technology.? What is there for media and technology

CLOUD COMPUTING – ultimate goal is to take all school servers and get them out of schools. Central location for all servers. Starting with AS400 going into cloud. Filtering

may also go into the cloud. Our server costs – email, web servers, (google email, Microsoft email) $60,000 per 4 years for the AS400. This cost would decrease substantially. The goal is to lighten the load on your district.Consider google email? – but see what your archiving options are.

TCPAI and MCPAI – MCREL (what I’ve written as “mackrell”) – these will be the rewritten assessments for media coordinators and tech facilitators (11am on Fri) media focus group will be in the future.ACTION – email Gerry Solomon with suggestions for written assessment.

Collaboration benchmarks, tech facilitators are central office positions, assessments should reflect the level of the position, not at a school level.

Literacy ReportingRequired for any 8th grade students that receive the ETT funding.I Strongly suggest that we do report. – or at least keep it for our records. Some ideas: Use Atomic Learning, Yes they are proficient, no they are not proficient. We can set the proficiency levels. You have to validate the information.

IS it 60%, 70% They are proficient in 7 out of the 10 standards. We can set what we determine as proficient. (ex. 60% on each test is acceptable.)SKILLS – vs. using the tools and having the knowledge to choose the correct technology to find the best information or show mastery.Don’t make it hard, but DO take it seriously. We’ve got major accountability and auditing down the road. Esp. with federal funds coming down the pipe. Race to the Top is going to change how technology is funded in the schools in NC.This is why we did this.

Skills are migrating to being included in the EOG’s – so if your students are proficient in keyboarding or databases – then they will pass the EOGs. If you aren’t training them they won’t be able to do it.The computer labs are going away as far as “lab class”

Online tests are coming for the future. So while proficiency doesn’t count “against” you right now, it will down the line when your students can’t take the EOG’s because their technology skills are not up to par.

Fifth grade paper and pencil test to show proficiency. (Durham Public School)Portfolio assessment now – sample work as electronic portfolio.Middle school – rubrics and portfolio idea for these students. They’re using a paid program to do this (atomic learning)

“Simple Assessment” – 60 item assessment – passing score will be at 50% of this assessment. ($2 per student) maybe a $1 per student. Free part with no performance. There is a fee version – don’t know if it’s good enough.Free lesson plans and other tools available.(InfoSource)

“Learning.com”

8th grade project that is already happening. Use these areas and put them in the project.Doesn’t have to be a test. Can be subjective. Can be a check list (they used x,y,z)Match what they did already with projects to what we need to report on.Sounds like most are going toward a project based. Teacher can say “this student is proficient” – based on project work.Rubrics with the teachers to make sure that it’s already in there.

Report it into NCWISE – not going “straight” to DPI. Keep records for five years.

Class scape – already used by many schools.

There are 10 NC 8th grade technology proficiency standards by NCDPI

April 23 – Next Meeting
