Why FRC?

Michael Smith ‘06Major: Criminal JusticeHometown: Reno, NVTransferred to Quincy University in Spring 2007

“When I enrolled at FRC, goal was to further my education

and still have the opportunity to play football. In doing all

of that I had accomplished many things that I had never

thought I could achieve. I met a lot of people that I know I

will have life long friendships with. I competed on the foot-

ball field, as well as in the classroom which got me onto

the Dean’s List. While at FRC, another door was opened in

my life. I received an athletic scholarship to the prestigious

Quincy University in Illinois. It was because of my time at

Feather River I was able to be so successful”.

Since 1968, Feather River College has been providing excellence in higher

education. We stand out by offering students a unique learning environment in

the mountains where the clean air, the four seasons, and safe community help

students transition from high school to college. The tradition of excellence in

academics is lead by the incredible faculty at FRC, one quarter of faculty members

have a Ph.D., the highest academic degree. Here, students are taught by faculty

members in small classroom settings, not by graduate assistants in a huge lecture

hall. The faculty actually know your name!

Whether you have your higher education goals clearly in mind or are still considering

your options, FRC offers transferable programs which will satisfy lower division

requirements at a university. Advisors are on campus to help you plan your courses

in order to make the jump to the university level.

TransferabilityFRC’s AA in Liberal Studies transfers to all California State University and University

of California campuses. We also have agreements with University of Nevada - Reno,

University of Nevada - Las Vegas and many other out-of-state public universities.

Our students have transferred to universities across the country including Texas

A&M, St. John’s in Maryland, University of Montana, Southern Oregon University,

University of Nevada, University of Hawaii as well as to schools in the California

State University and the University of California systems. From Shakespeare to

molecular biology, from calculus to philosophy, let Feather River College take you

on the Ed-venture of a lifetime!

Reduced Tuition For Nevada StudentsThe California Good Neighbor Policy allows Feather River College

to offer a reduced tuition rate to our Nevada Neighbors

The “Good Neighbor” policy is a reciprocal arrangement between the state of Nevada

and its bordering California counties. Students who are residents of Nevada enjoy

reduced out-of-state tuition. In turn, Plumas County residents pay reduced tuition

at Nevada colleges.

◗ Nevada residents may enroll at FRC at a tuition rate of $42 per unit (compared

to $180 for other non-California residents).*

◗ No minimum or maximum total units to qualify. Contact the Admissions Office at

(530) 283-0202, ext. 222 for more information.

* Tuition rates are subject to change.

Day in the Mountains

Each spring, FRC hosts an open house for prospective students who want to learn more about the college, our programs and services, meet faculty, and see what opportunities await them. It’s a day packed with information, program demonstrations, as well as campus and student housing tours. New students are also offered the opportunity to priority register for fall classes. And then there is the fun!!! Students and their families can participate in a variety of activities, maybe shoot around with the basketball team, paint a mural with the art club, or take a white water rafting trip. Don’t miss out on this fantastic day! Visit www.frc.edu/dayinthemountains to learn more!

Hometown: Newcastle, EnglandFeather River College has changed my outlook on

life, it has helped me realize that all can not be

learned from text books and a lot can be learned

from the people around you sharing the same

experience. I have made strong social ties and

friendships from all over the world, Brazil,

Sweden, Guatemala to name but a few.

I chose FRC because I can afford it and I am close

to home. I am not in debt and I have not had to

take out loans, so I will not be $40,000 in debt

like many of my friends. Going to FRC is help-

ing me transfer to a four year college and pos-

sibly give me the chance to play soccer at

the university level. After completing my

AA in liberal studies, I plan on majoring

in Physical Education Teaching and

Coaching at a four-year university.

Student LifeStudent life at Feather River College is quite different than at many other

community colleges. Since many students attend FRC from all over the globe,

we provide on-campus housing. The small campus provides you with an

opportunity to really get to know other students faculty and staff, so there

is always a recognizable and friendly face. Intercollegiate athletics provide

student-athletes with the challenge of competing both on and off the playing

fields or courts, and many exciting moments enjoyed by the spirited FRC

Golden Eagle fans. Activities and leadership opportunities abound with clubs

like Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE), Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the Game Club,

the Recycle Club, and the Art Club. For the adventurous, the Feather River

Outings Group (F.R.O.G.) provides kayaking, white water rafting, hiking, and

skiing trips. The outdoor paradise Lake Tahoe and larger towns like Reno,

and Chico, CA are not too far away.

AthleticsFeather River College Athletics teams have grown to become some of the

top community college competitors in the northern California. Hardly

a season goes by where one of our teams is not playing a conference

title game or advancing to a bowl game or championship tournament.

Golden Eagles. You are able to get out and cheer for:

Tiffani Wilson • Major: Environmental StudiesHometown: ?????Transfering to HumboldtI am in my fourth semester at FRC, majoring in Environmental Studies and loving

the Outdoor Recreation Program. When I began I was very scared and not sure

how I would do in school because it had been a little over ten years since

high school; it didn’t take long to see that I definitely ended up in the right

place. Since that first day I have been constantly impressed with FRC’s

staff, as well as my ability to do so well at so many things. Many

of my instructors have inspired me in so many ways and have

encouraged me to try harder and do more...because I can!

After FRC I plan to further my education in Humboldt

where I will follow my path in an Environmental

field and I will continue to play a leader-

ship role in Environmental clubs

and programs as well.

“Upon entering the Plumas National Forest, your breath

is taken away by the beauty of all that naturally ex-

ists. Then you see Feather River Community College,

nestled between mountains on a hillside, lush green

with streams running for listening pleasure. This is

a place you want to learn! The class sizes are in-

timate, allowing outdoor classes occasionally

and relationships with the teachers and

staff that can be really beneficial to the

outcome of your education. I feel that

Feather River College has given me

the confidence needed to proceed

on my learning adventure and not

be afraid of anything.”

“I don’t think that there could have been a better choice for me than

Feather River College. Being in a small town, but bigger than my home

town, it is a perfect stepping stone for me in accomplishing my aca-

demic and athletic goals. The professors and staff are so dedicated to

making your education a success they make you want to succeed. With

their dedication to teaching I have been able to achieve a

4.0 g.p.a. and play volleyball at the same time.

I will be able to graduate at the end of the fall semes-

ter of 2008 with a degree in Liberal Studies so that

I may transfer to a four year college and continue

my studies in becoming a high school teach-

er and volleyball coach, don’t know if I will

yet, I don’t know if I want to leave yet.

But whenever I do leave I know I

will be more than ready to take

on any school that lies in my

future!”
