DECEMBER 30, 2018 - 3 -FEAST OF THE HOLY FAMILY OF JESUS, MARY AND JOSEPH

My deepest thanks to all parishioners of St. Timothy parish for all you do to increase charity and to take on sacrifice.

Fr. Ed

as she smiled up at her Mom. And looked back at her teacher, who

Told her to go on.

And with hands behind her back, slowly she began to speak.

And out from the mouth of a child, came words incredibly unique.

“My Daddy couldn’t be here, because he lives so far away.

But I know he wishes he could be, since this is such a special day.

And though you cannot meet him, I wanted you to know, all about my daddy,

and how much he loves me so.

He loved to tell me stories he taught me to ride my bike.

He surprised me with pink roses, and taught me to fly a kite.

We used to share fudge sundaes, and ice cream in a cone.

And though you cannot see him, I’m not standing here alone.

“Cause my daddy’s always with me, even though we are apart

I know because he told me, he’ll forever be in my heart.”

and lay across her chest. Feeling her own heartbeat, beneath her favorite dress.

And from somewhere there in the crowd of dads, her mother stood in tears.

Proudly watching her daughter, who was wise beyond her years.

For she stood up for the love of a man not in her life

DADDY’S POEM Her hair was up in a pony tail,

her favorite dress tied with a bow. Today was Daddy’s Day at school,

And she couldn’t wait to go.

But her mommy tried to tell her, that she probably should stay home. Why the kids might not understand,

if she went to school alone.

But she was not afraid; she knew just what to say. What to tell her classmates

of why he wasn’t there today. But still her mother worried,

for her to face this day alone. And that was why once again,

she tried to keep her daughter home.

But the little girl went to school eager to tell them all.

About a dad she never sees, a dad who never calls.

There were daddies along the wall in back, for everyone to meet.

Children squirming impatiently, anxious in their seats.

One by one the teacher called a student from the class, to introduce their daddy,

as seconds slowly passed.

At last the teacher called her name, every child turned to stare.

Each of them was searching, a man who wasn’t there.

“Where’s her daddy at?” She heard a boy call out.

“She probably doesn’t have one,” another student dared to shout.

And from somewhere near the back, she heard a daddy say,

“Looks like another deadbeat dad, too busy to waste his day.”

The words did not offend her,

BIBLE STUDY

Welcome to the start of a new year—2019. We are going to initiate a new program this year. In addition to starting off in the New Testament and ending in the Old Testament, we will introduce sessions on improving our relationship with God

and one another. Starting Tuesday, January 8, and Wednesday, January 9, we will be studying Thessalonians 1 & 2. It will be interesting to observe how Paul adjusts his approach to relate to the different churches. Perhaps it will help us to adjust our approach to the different people we encounter in our daily lives. All are welcome. Yes! That includes you, too. For more information, call Allen a (352) 751-0294.

HEARING - LOOP - BASICS HOW DOES A HEARING LOOP WORK? Through the use of a loop amplifier & strategically placed wire around the room that transmits directly into a hearing aid or cochlear implant that has a T-Coil installed in it WHAT IS A T-COIL? A T-coil is a small metal rod with metal wire wrapped around it that is installed in a hearing aid which is necessary to receive the Loop signal. The other purpose of the T-coil is to make using the telephone easier by eliminating the high pitched interference you may hear when putting the phone to your ear. HOW DO I KNOW IF I HAVE A T-COIL? The T-coil program, necessary for use with the Loop System is one that is manually activated by the user. This is done by either pressing a button on the hearing aid or by use of a remote control. You may presently be pressing this button to use the telephone. If you are uncertain if you have a T-coil program, consult with your hearing professional as you may have one but it may not be activated. CAN MY HEARING AID BE RETROFITTED FOR THE T-COIL? Yes, in many cases. Consult with your hearing professional or hearing aid manufacturer to confirm. IS THE FIELD IT CREATES, SAFE FOR A PACEMAKER? Yes, the electromagnetic field it creates is not strong enough to affect a user.

CATECHISM CORNER:HOW TO EAT AN ELEPHANT ONE BITE AT A TIME

Article 143 (CCC): By faith man completely submits his intellect and his will to God. With his whole being, man gives his assent to the revealer.

REFLECTION: It seems like such a difficult choice to turn our whole lives over to God, but to think that a creature can have anything of value apart from the Creator is utter self-delusion.

99 WAYS TO EVANGELIZE AS A CATHOLIC

81. Adopt a grandparent as a family. Invite them into your home for holidays, or visit them during the holidays. (Often seniors are more comfortable in their own homes).

82. Take your kids, or grandkids, to the playground. Converse with others while you are there.

83. Participate in the “Annual Life Chain” event; help at a pregnancy center, or support “Rachel’s Vineyard” post abortion healing retreat.

84. Reduce your intake of television, movies, and the Internet. 85. Spend some time in silent reflection. Start with five minutes a

day. Try to visualize darkness, calmness, nothingness, peace. Block out other thoughts. God will “break-in” when He wants. You will recognize Him.

We all need an objective shoulder to lean on.

THE STORY OF MARY, MOTHER OF GOD Mary’s divine motherhood broadens the Christmas spotlight. Mary has an important role to play in the Incarnation of the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity. She consents to God’s invitation conveyed by the angel (Luke 1:26-38). Elizabeth proclaims: “Most blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb.

And how does this happen to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?” (Luke 1:42-43, emphasis added). Mary’s role as mother of God places her in a unique position in God’s redemptive plan.

Without naming Mary, Paul asserts that “God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law” (Galatians 4:4). Paul’s further statement that “God sent the spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying out ‘Abba, Father!’” helps us realize that Mary is mother to all the brothers and sisters of Jesus.

Some theologians also insist that Mary’s motherhood of Jesus is an important element in God’s creative plan. God’s “first” thought in creating was Jesus. Jesus, the incarnate Word, is the one who could give God perfect love and worship on behalf of all creation. As Jesus was “first” in God’s mind, Mary was “second” insofar as she was chosen from all eternity to be his mother.

The precise title “Mother of God” goes back at least to the third or fourth century. In the Greek form Theotokos—God-bearer—it became the touchstone of the Church’s teaching about the Incarnation. The Council of Ephesus in 431 insisted that the holy Fathers were right in calling the holy virgin Theotokos. At the end of this particular session, crowds of people marched through the street shouting: “Praised be the Theotokos!” The tradition reaches to our own day. In its chapter on Mary’s role in the Church, Vatican II’s Dogmatic Constitution on the Church calls Mary “Mother of God” 12 times.

REFLECTION

Other themes come together at today’s celebration. It is the Octave of Christmas: Our remembrance of Mary’s divine motherhood injects a further note of Christmas joy. It is a day of prayer for world peace: Mary is the mother of the Prince of Peace. It is the first day of a new year: Mary continues to bring new life to her children—who are also God’s children.
