WHY SHOULD WE FEAR GOD?PROVERBS 9:10, 11

The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy [is] understanding. For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

PSALMS 9:20Put them in fear, O LORD: [that] the nations may know themselves [to be but] men.

GENESIS 2:7 And the LORD God formed man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

GOD ALONE MUST BE FEARED…

1 CHRONICLES 16:29, 30Give unto the LORD the glory [due] unto his name: bring an offering, and come before him: worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness. Fear before him, all the earth: the world also shall be stable, that it be not moved.

2 CHRONICLES 7:3And when all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the LORD upon the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the pavement, and worshipped, and praised the LORD, [saying], For [he is] good; for his mercy [endureth] for ever.

ANY REASONS WHY WE SHOULD FEAR GOD?

EXODUS 3:5, 6 (Holiness)And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest [is] holy ground. ...I [am] the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. And Moses hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

LUKE 5:5, 8 (Creator)And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. When Simon Peter saw [it], he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, Depart from me; for I am a sinful man, O Lord.

PERSONS WHO FEARED GOD DEUTERONOMY 10:12, 13

And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?

JOB 1:8, 9And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that [there is] none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?

CAN ONE FEAR GOD AND YET REMAIN DISOBEDIENT TO HIS WORD?

GENESIS 22:12

And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only [son] from me.

HEBREWS 11:17

By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten [son],

PROVERBS 14:2

He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but [he that is] perverse in his ways despiseth him.

MOMENTS OF WEAKNESS: GENESIS 20:11And Abraham said, Because I thought, Surely the fear of God [is] not in this place; and they will slay me for my wife's sake.

ROMANS 3:11-18• There is none that seeketh after God• They are all gone out of the way• They are together become unprofitable• There is none that doeth good• Their tongues they have used deceit• The poison of asps [is] under their lips• Their mouth is full of cursing and bitterness• Their feet [are] swift to shed blood• Destruction and misery [are] in their ways• They know not peace• There is no fear of God before their eyes

FEAR GOD: A FREE OR FORCED WILL?

HEBREWS 12:28, 29Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God [is] a consuming fire.

2 CORINTHIANS 7:1Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Page 11: Fear God

2 CORINTHIANS 6:14-18

Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in [them]; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean [thing]; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

FEAR GOD: KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS

ECCLESIASTES 12:13, 14Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this [is] the whole [duty] of man. For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether [it be] good, or whether [it be] evil.

REVELATION 14:7Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
