The Process What is it? Eligibility The bursary awards are between £150 and £345.80 per month, paid for the duration of your time here in Plymouth at the College of Art. Bursary payments are made monthly for the duration of the course, because of this, the Bursary doesn’t cover any upfront costs such as: relocation costs, termly payments or de-posit (any deposit will be returned to you at the end of the tenancy period). As the payments are only made whilst your son/daughter is in attendance of their course, check the length of the tenancy carefully, and, if you are required to pay for any ad-ditional month’s rent, you have the funds in place. The College is unable to act as guarantor.

The Bursary is unable to support those stu-dents who may be at risk of homelessness or, those who have fallen out with their parents, for this we would refer the student to Con-nexions or The Zone. These organisations would also be the appropriate people to talk to regarding any benefits that the student may currently be in receipt of and, how becoming a student may affect these.

As EMA and ALG are no longer open to new applications, you can contact Student Funding to see if you are eligible for any other financial assistance. Many students studying full time now choose to look for work to support them-selves financially, there are over 520 shops in Plymouth, many of which advertise their posi-tions in their windows.

The Residential Bursary is provided as a gift from the College to your son/daughter how-ever, the College doesn’t have a legal obliga-tion to pay and if your child’s attendance falls below 80%, the Bursary can be withdrawn. This means that any legal agreements are between the student and landlord, should you be a guarantor for your child then you will be liable for any unpaid rent.
