Chapter Spotlight Seminole Ridge Community High School Chapter

In the fall, members of our chapter represented the Seminole Ridge dance department in the Homecoming week activities by creating a float and marching in our Homecoming Parade at the football game. The theme of our float was Jurassic Park, and was well-received by the crowd. In January, members of our chapter collaborated with students in the drama department to present a children’s show to first-graders from a neighboring elementary school. We created dances about the alphabet, sports, erasers, and even allergies! The young students had a great time and enjoyed the performance.

Chapter FL-313, Boca Raton

Chapter FL-313 had a great year, inducting 90 members from nine local studios. We partnered with Depend On A Friend (501c3) to host a Christmas toy drive for Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, as well as hosted our annual Have A Heart food drive to benefit Boca Helping Hands. Members rallied together to make both of these community service opportunities a success! - Melanie Gibbs, Sponsor

Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts Chapter

From the beginning of attending Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts as a dance major, every student is well aware of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts. Patiently waiting until junior year to be a part of this amazing organization, the dance majors at Dreyfoos carefully take note of what the older members do for the dance community in order to qualify for admission. The Dreyfoos School of the Arts NHSDA Chapter carefully reviews applications from incoming juniors and seniors, reviewing their grades in school, their involvement in the dance department, and character. Once admitted into the society, meetings are held at least once every month to discuss ideas and plans for upcoming events. Our first event of the year is usually Dreyfoos in White. Dreyfoos in White is a fundraising event to support the school's arts departments in funding the Artists and Residence teachers who continue to enhance our education in the arts. Guests attending the event are required to dress in all white, bring their own picnic dinner and white table décor – extravagance is encouraged. This pop-up-style dinner takes place in a secret location and feature performances by the Dreyfoos NHSDA. In the weeks leading up to the event the society takes their lunch time to nicely put together a fun and energetic dance routine to spontaneously perform during the event. The Dreyfoos NHSDA also volunteers throughout the day at Fresh Fest, a festival celebrating health, fitness, music, and an all-over healthy lifestyle. The chapter prepares a flash mob, but also assists the different vendors and helps to pump up the crowd with their friendly energy. The society also semi-annually collects dance clothes that are gently used by the society members to donate to economically disadvantaged young dancers. Amongst all the events that this society contributes their time to, at the end of the day we are all one group that simply just loves the art of dance. – Heather Lescaille, sponsor

Chapter FL1012 at Wellington High School hosted a variety of events this year for students. They taught a jazz and creative dance class to students from New Horizon’s Elementary. Students from the ESE department participated in a creative movement dance class taught by our NHSDA President, Nia Jones. Children ages 3-14 participated in our annual Dance Clinic, and our chapter had the opportunity to perform at Dance Marathon. It has been a wonderful year sharing the love of dance with others!
