The Fayetteville Area Transportation and Local History Museum is pleased to offer a glimpse into the life and pottery of

E. A. Poe. Often confused with the poet, Fayetteville’s Edgar Allan Poe was a prominent businessman and community

leader who manufactured bricks and pottery. His home is now a historic house museum, the 1897 Poe House, part of

the Museum of the Cape Fear Historical Complex. Learn more about the man who shaped the historic downtown

landscape with his bricks and solidified his name in history with his pottery.

This vivid exhibit on Dutch Resistance Art and Official Propaganda during the period 1940-1945 is based on three

collections: 8 original propaganda posters distributed by the Nazi-controlled Dutch government; 21 linoleum and

woodcut prints by Marie de Zaaijer, which depict the suffering and hardship Holland endured during the war; and

several original drawings by the Dutch artist Henri Pieck, created during the artist’s internment at Buchenwald

concentration camp. Together, the artworks convey the Nazi oppression that enveloped Holland and its citizens during
