75th ANNIVERSARY ALBUM
This Light Crust Doughboys’ album is historic in many ways: 75th Anniversary Album,
final sessions of legendary pianist/songwriter/Doughboy Bill Simmons, last recording
sessions to date of John Walden/Jerry Elliott/Art Greenhaw together, last Doughboys’
session to be recorded “live” with no overdubs in classic analog recording style. Even
though these are his “final sessions”, keyboardist Bill Simmons has never sounded better
or never danced on the keys with more flair. All the ‘Boys are giving it their “live” all,
sensing that they’ll never be together again in this recording environment, re-creating
sounds that have thrilled fans of their stage shows for years. No Doughboys’ fan should be
without this 75th ANNIVERSARY ALBUM: BILL SIMMONS TRIBUTE.

Doughboys & SMU Mustang Band
Daily Campus Album Rating: A
BAND COLLABORATION BRINGS BLAST FROM THE PAST
. . .jazzy jukebox tunes of THE HIGH ROAD CD. The album consists of a wide range of
influences, including those of jazz, swing, and country and western styles. The 19 track CD
is great mood music, perfect . . .
For instance, “Hangin? ?Round Deep Ellum”, a song written by The Doughboys
singer/guitarist/electric bassist, Art Greenhaw, is about Dallas? downtown nightspot, a
place prominent in the music and art scenes today. THE HIGH ROAD ON THE HILLTOP is

funkier, bluesier projects, this work has long been an essential pick for fans of dixieland,
variety and big band. Both this and its follow-up album, YESTERDAY AND TODAY by The
Light Crust Doughboys, were Best-Of-Show at the 1996 State Fair of Texas-Hall Of State-
The Light Crust Doughboys exhibit.

ADVENTURE IN COUNTRY SWING
Being a musician myself, I have always loved all styles of music. I have to admit that many
of the songs on this CD are memories my father played when I was a boy growing up in the
’50s.
This CD is very special to me because it blends the talents of my favorite guitarist, Nokie
Edwards, with the finest in Texas Country Swing talent… The Light Crust Doughboys and
Tom Brumley. The Doughboys provide the unique and smooth rhythm foundation for the
experienced soloing of Nokie Edwards and Tom Brumley. Tom’s steel guitar gives a
haunting liquid beauty to these classic songs. His immense talent and precision is
perfectly obvious throughout. Art Greenhaw, this CD’s producer/engineer and
bassist/vocalist for the Doughboys, has waited a long time to finally perform with his
guitar hero, Nokie Edwards — A treat leaving guitarists everywhere envious.
Nokie (former lead guitarist of The Ventures) comes to this CD bringing his strong, early
roots in country music. With obvious bias from Art and myself, Nokie has the fingers,
style, tone and precision that launched a million guitarists. His technique continues to
inspire young guitarists around the world and earns him the eternal, well-deserved title
“King of Guitar”.
“Adventure in County Swing” is the only and perfect title for this CD. The blended talents
and styles of these fine musicians are an adventure in listening. The cover of this CD gives
us a delightful allusion to Nokie’s historical past and a stroll down memory lane. Run,
Don’t Walk to your CD player!

A SURF N SWING-FRET N STRING CHRISTMAS
An eclectic romp through traditional Christmas Carols, Folk Spirituals, and even a little bit
of Yuletide Surf music by Ventures Guitar Great—Nokie Edwards and The Original Texas
Swing Band—The Light Crust Doughboys.
Thanks to my idol in guitar, Nokie Edwards, my fondest Christmas memories include not
only the family and spiritual things, but also the playing over and over again of THE
VENTURES’ CHRISTMAS ALBUM with Nokie on lead guitar. We have sincerely tried to
capture a lot of the “good times-Americana” sounds associated with guitars, girls, dancing
and swing music, and we’ve seasoned it all with the folk, country and gospel sounds of
The Light Crust Doughboys and our southwestern musical heritage. I still play THE
VENTURES’ CHRISTMAS ALBUM over and over again starting each November, but now I
have another one to place in heavy rotation by its side…. A SURF ‘N’ SWING/FRET ‘N’
STRING CHRISTMAS!
— Art Greenhaw
bass guitar/electric guitar/vocals/producer
The Light Crust Doughboys, est. 1931 and still running strong!

20TH CENTURY GOSPEL: FROM HYMNS TO BLACKWOOD BROTHERS
TRIBUTE TO CHRISTIAN COUNTRY
Grammy Award Nominated
Editor’s Review, CD UNIVERSE
Recording information: 2004. Among music fans, the phrase “they just don’t make records
like they used to…” ranks with the most commonly heard complaints. 20th CENTURY
GOSPEL is a record exactly like they used to make, and may be just the thing for
nostalgia-buffs looking for a touch of the old in the 21st century. Masterminded by Art
Greenhaw, latter-day leader of Western-swing pioneers the Light Crust Doughboys, the
album is a good-vibe-packed mix of Southern gospel, Nashville Sound-style country, and
instrumental guitar rock. Often sounding like the jukebox playlist from some mythical
Southwestern 1950s coffee shop, the album features a rich, reverb-drenched production
style reminiscent of Chet Atkins’s best work. Greenhaw’s manly baritone is warm and
inviting, and when backed by vocal-group legends the Jordanaires (“Gospel Woman,”
“Welcome to My World”), the resultant sound suggests the glory days of Elvis Presley and
Jim Reeves. Guitar god and former Ventures member Nokie Edwards guests on several
tracks (“Ode to Joy,” “The Great Speckled Bird”) and his sound has never been twangier. A
pristinely recorded and expertly played slice of truly American music, 20th CENTURY
GOSPEL is an uplifting work that resonates with the participants’ obvious love of making
music.
Songs:
1. Gospel Woman
2. Ode To Joy
3. I’m Ashamed If I Forget Calvary
4. Welcome To My World
