Ely Sinfonia and St Ives Choral Society combine forces to produce a concert to remember - one of real depth and contrast.

Faure’s Requiem is one of the most loved pieces in the choral repertoire, combining subtlety and eloquence with deep emotional undercurrents. under the baton of local celebrity musician steve Bingham, expect a rendering that will move you to tears.

in contrast, Brahms’ Academic Festival Overture is the composer’s ultimate musical joke. Hidden behind Brahms’ solid musical technique, you will make out a medley of boisterous student songs, culminating in the Victorian favourite, Gaudeamus Igitur.

Who could not be transported by Samuel Barber’s Adagio, one of the most serene of compositions for string orchestra and one which, as an early critic said, “rarely leaves a dry eye”? Finally, Knoxville - summer of 1915 is one of Barber’s most acclaimed pieces for voice. Lush and richly textured, it paints a child’s dreamlike vision of a warm summer evening in the american deep south.
