(John 15: 9)

o Jesus spoke of God as ‘Our Father’ 30 times.
1 Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.
2 In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place
for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you
may be also (ESV).
1 Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me.
2 There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going
to prepare a place for you? 3 When everything is ready, I will
come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am. (NLT)
Verse 1
Trouble vs. Trust
Verse 2
Availability vs. Accessibility
Verse 3
House vs. Home
Trouble vs. Trust
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.”
The Essence of the Faith Struggle:We believe in God’s power over
eternity, but we struggle to grasp His authority over the here-and-now.
Trouble vs. Trust
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me.”
The Essence of the Faith Response:We don’t simply believe in God, but we
believe in a God who saves – Jesus – Jehovah Saves
Availability vs. Accessibility
“In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to
prepare a place for you?”
Availability:There is a place for everyone in the family of
God … but am I really welcome?
Availability vs. Accessibility
“In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to
prepare a place for you?”
Accessibility:God prepares the place, but the place
requires our presence.
House vs. Home
“And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that
where I am you may be also.”
House vs. HomeWe think of eternity as a place – a house –
but it really is a relationship – a home.
Revelation 21: 2 – 4
“2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned
for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
“Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God
himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and
death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former
things have passed away.”
Questions …
Transitioning from the Troubled Life to Eternal Lifeo How do we know the way? (Thomas)o Lord, show us (Philip)o How will you manifest yourself to us? (Judas)
Jesus Changes Direction
“In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to
myself, that where I am you may be also.” (vv. 2-3)
“If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and
make our home with him.” (v. 23)
The only way to experience a home in
eternity is to allow God to make a home in our
hearts.
The difference between a house and home
o A house is defined by the structure or building.
o A home is defined by the family that lives inside.
Many Christians try to experience God by building the spiritual houses of religious
practice, but God wants to turn our houses into homes through His presence.
His presence requires our presence.
