Ladies Association of Walden Newsletter February 2019 Ladies - Would you believe it? It was 39 years ago our L.A.W. association was formed. Our first president was Ber- ta Hamilton back in 1980. And if you think about it, we would have no L.A.W Association today without Walden women stepping forward to fill positions allowing our group to proper and grow. I can’t help but think of the num- ber of ladies who did this in past years as well. It’s great to come to a L.A.W. luncheon and program almost every month. The get - togethers allow us to meet with friends and make new ones. And sure, things may not always run as planned but the overall result of get-togethers is a pretty great time. These luncheons give us an opportunity to chat with old acquaintances and meet new friends. We also have sev- eral special interest groups available to keep us enjoyably involved throughout the year. Sure, now and then, things may not go exactly as planned, after all, we are a volunteer group of human beings. But know that the ladies who serve as officers, Board of Directors, and committee members all strive to do their best for you. They are all here for you each month just as in past years. When you see one of these gals who serve, why not give them a smile and a “high-5 ”. And now, permit me to introduce this year’s hard-working com- mittee members: Brenda Cooper collects our membership applications and sends them on to Brenda Badgett who compiles our new Membership Directory then send it on to the press. Sandy Barron is our Newsletter Editor, Photographer, and Histo- rian. For 15 years she hasn’t missed a step. Even when life throws her a hard ball, she still comes through for us. Ann Shelton keeps tally of our e -mail reservations up to the 1:00pm, Wednesday deadline. Sharon Cason Fenske keeps a count of phone reservations up to our deadline and sends the list to Ann who combines them with the e-mail reserva- tions for a final a master list of luncheon attendees. The total number expected for the lunch- eon is passed on to Jodi at the Yacht Club for meal planning. Carol Keplin creates our Name Tags while making sure the names match the master list. Mean while: Jackie Davis is there at the front desk to assist with Check- In’s. Pauline Geiselhart is our L.A.W. Secretary. She faithfully takes meeting notes and sends them on in finished form to the Board and President. Meredith Wedin serves as Treasurer. At the end of each monthly luncheon, she makes sure all monies collected cor- rectly match expenditures. Rita Hinds is our Vice President who is responsible for putting on our monthly programs. Please know this takes a great deal of effort, energy and time as any past VPs can attest. My point is that all these gals volunteer to do this work be- cause they love L.A.W. and are committed to keeping our Asso- ciation running smoothly. Maybe next year YOU may choose to serve your Association by volun- teering as well. Ladies of L.A.W. are the BEST and we hope you enjoy every future association meet- ing. Remember that next month we are the first ones to see the 2019 Follies – and I’ll see you on stage! Love to all and have a fan- tastic February. Jan Jessen, President Our program for Friday, February 1st will be the Assistance League Style Show. These Walden Ladies will be modeling some of the eye-catching styles that come through their Boutique section. Also, they will set up an area where we can shop for Jewelry and Clothing. All one of a kind items. This is always fun. They know how to do it up right. JUST A REMINDER... Don't forget to get your tickets for our Friday, March 1st program. This will include the Local "Walden Follies" entertainment. It is always a BIG HIT that sells out. Rita Hinds, Vice President –Programs Fashion Show Modeling One-of-a-Kind Clothing

doesn’t matter as long as theplot and characters keep youreading. So says Walden’sBookShare group. Peggy

Bramblett hosted the firstmeeting of the year for

these bibliophiles.Favorites this month

included Sara Blaedel’s“The Forgotten Girls” and W. Bruce Camejo’s “ADog’s Way Home” which is currently playing inthe movie theaters. Sara Blædel is an extreme-ly popular Danish author best known for hercrime fiction novels featuring the characterLouise Rick. “In a forest in Denmark, a rangerdiscovers the fresh corpse of an unidentifiedwoman. A large scar on one side of her faceshould make the identification easy, but nobodyhas reported her missing.” Sounds interestingto me. ~~~Sandy Barron

I always knew that Walden was the very best place to live and this has been proven inthe last few months. Your prayers, cards, Facebook communication, and donations inMackenzie’s honor are heartwarming and very much appreciated. It certainly makesthis time just a little bit better. Mackenzie, my granddaughter, is in a fight for herlife. At this point her tumor is not growing and, in fact, appears smaller than whendiagnosed six months ago. She is showing no ill effects from the radiation and then

trial medications nor is exhibiting any symptoms of the cancer. Once again, thank youand please remember Mackenzie in your thoughts and prayers. Sandy Barron
