First Digital Camera

• The first camera was created in December 1975 by an engineer at Eastman Kodak named Steve Sasson, now the inventor of the digital camera.

• Since 1975, Kodak has invented several solid-state image sensors that "converted light to digital pictures" for work and home.

• It took 23 seconds for the first picture to be taken.

Saturday Night Live

• Popular Show in 1975• The first season of Saturday Night Live, was a 90-minute

American comedy shown on NBC. • Saturday Night Live premiered on October 11, 1975 and

consisted of a total of 24 episodes, the last of which aired on July 31, 1976

• All teens and adults would be ready to watch that deticated night it would be on.

Rock & Roll Music

• Music was also a huge part of 70s culture. The Rock and Roll genre that started in the 60s had a great influence on the youth of the decade. All sorts of Rock genres emerged and much of it had adults shaking their heads and wondering what would become of their kids if they kept listening to this loud music with these explicit lyrics.

• And at the end of the decade, young adults found a new kind of music and a new way to have fun. Disco music started the opening of hundreds of dance clubs around the country. Though disco music would disappear by the end of the decade, it would have a big impact on many aspects of life in the 70s including music and fashion.

Beatles Break Up

• However, the Beatles then broke up in the mid to late 1970s.

• In the late 60s, the legendary rock band the Beatles spent three years of constant conflict and arguments and everyone wanted to know who started it and. And by the spring of 1970, there was still a small amount of business relationships keeping the group together.

• There were many causes for the Beatles break up. • It was not a single event but many events added up as a

whole.• There were marked by rumors of a split and ambiguous

comments by the Beatles themselves regarding the future of the group. Although John Lennon privately informed the other Beatles that he was leaving the group in September 1969, there was no public acknowledgement of the break-up until Paul McCartney (manager) announced on April 10th 1970 he was quitting the Beatles.

Elvis Presley Found Dead

1977 • Elvis Found Dead• Elvis was not only famous for his music but his ways

of life were based on teenage market of different types of records, magazines, fashions and radios that youth was entertained by.

• He started to trend colorful, youth orientated clothing, for example, the jump suit in the 1970s.

• Many people were so depressed from his death that they started to wear him on clothing in his honor a couple years later.

• Elvis inspired male hair by having males be able to have long hair instead of the crew cuts.

Growth of Women's Rights

• The women's movement that took place in the 1960s and 1970s drew up inspiration from the civil rights movement. The movement was made up of middle class citizens and used the spirit of rebellion that affected the youth of the middle-class.

• The Women's rights movements are addressing the political, social, and economic status of women. It states how women want to be equal to men and not let discrimination happen based on gender.

• In the 70s it began to be “okay” for wives and moms to distribute the responsibility for their home and family to others. They went out and made some extra money that helped pay for the houses and cars that were growing in size and cost.

• People became free thinkers who would question government and demanding that their voices be heard. Citizens were more likely to speak out against the status and were also more self-aware. This culture was recognized by author Tom Wolfe, who eventually stated the 70s the “Me Decade”.

• Suit Up• Men went back to wearing three piece suits with

matching vests and jackets. • The shirts worn underneath had a wide collar. • While plain colored suits were still worn, men also

experiment with bright colors and prints.

• Towards the mid-seventies came another fashion trend - the jumpsuit.

• These outfits were tailored from fabrics that shone and glittered. Bright colors, shimmer and sequins were all a necessity with these one-piece wonders. The style was often the same and it focused on highlighting your curves.

• These were worn by both men and women.• Wide-legged, flared jeans and trousers were for both

male and females throughout most of the decade.

• Polyester was the material of choice and bright colors were everywhere.

• Men and women alike were wearing very tight fitting pants and platform shoes. By 1973, most women were wearing high cut boots and low cut pants.

• This was the era in which hot pants (tiny, tight shorts) became a craze for young women and girls. These shorts showed off tiny waists and showed off long legs.

Vivienne Westwood Biography

Vivienne Isabel Swire was her maden name. She was born in Glossop, Derbyshire, England on April 8th 1941. Vivienne's family moved to Harrow where she started working at a local factory at 17 years old and says thats where it all started. In the 1960's Vivienne married Derek Westwood and became Vivienne Westwood. However, a many years later she was divorced and met another man Malcolm Mclaren an art student and future manager of Sex Pistols. In 1971, Mclaren opened a boutique in London and put Westwood's designs in it.Vivienne Westwood is a British fashion designer who influenced punk rock on fashion in both America and Great Britain during the 1970s and even today.

Roy Halston Frowick, best known as Halston, was an iconic clothing designer of the 1970s. His sexy, yet elegant dresses became most well known. American fashion designer Halston was born on April 23, 1932, in Iowa. Halston’s hat designs brought the fantastic to even better; he used all manner of jewels, flowers and fringe to decorate hoods and bonnets. Halston began designing women's wear in 1966, offering a perfect look for the beginning of his era. His line was renowned for sexy, yet elegant pieces.
