Maersk is a Danish international oil company. Our site is the Maersk Office at the Qatar Science and Technology Park(QSTP). The office faced three main problems which included (1) lack of reception space or way finding, (2) unused breakout room and (3)overall bad acoustic balance in the open plan office with untreated exposed ceiling. Maersk did not want reception desk because it would have blocked the emergency routes nor did they want to alter the appearance of the exposed ceiling. The breakout room upstairs was not used much perhaps due to facing the

often used conference room with glass walls that invaded the privacy of the space. My aim was to introduce acoustic elements that were not only visually pleasing only but also would complement the existing design of the office.

An office space that is warm and energetic combining the idea of oil drops.

Three parts of flat steel for the structure that bend around the circles where they intersect.

Foam covered fabric enveloping a round steel structure

Tubes connected with two bolts at two points.

Moving the existing furnitre towards the back alllowed for better visual access from the main door to the admin table, and also provided space for the placement for an additional printing station. The circular carpets and wall partition (Img.7) led the viewer to admin desk that also served as a reception desk. Suspended circular domes allow for acoustic privacy for each workstation in the open office space without altering the exposed ceiling. The canopy structure(Img.8) minimizes the sound produced in the huddle space by acting as an absorber, diffuser as well reflector. It keeps the sound focused on the huddle space and does not allow it to spread. This piece is also usable to shelf books or to just write on.

The breakout space upstairs (Img.13) is a highly contrasting space from the space downstairs. This room is comparatively muter than the space downstairs. It provides a retreat for the employees who want to relax or work in an alternative space. The circle seatings provide a space that has a sense of enclosure for the one who sits here. The glowing light that at the back of these seats that is comfortable to a reading or relaxing eye. The chairs are designed to be comfortable enough to recline or just sit. The lighting here plays an important role, giving a character to the white space here.The wooden flooring adds an intimate feeling to the bright artficial space. The bubble canopy structure comes upto the breakout room becoming a counter table(Img. 15). The people sitting here can work or enjoy their lunch gazing out to the windows or just down to the canopy structure The furnitures used are such that they change their function with relationship to the context. The couch here changes to ottoman based on the need, thus we have 5 ottomans when there is no need of the couch. The table here is a combination of 4 tables that have formed to look like one rectangular table. The acoustic panels on the wall and the ceiling absorb or diffuse the sound, thereby decreasing the sound reflected within the office space.

Bangladesh being a deltaic country faces problems of flood every year, during which people loose their lives, properties and livelihood, thereby being affected mentally and physically.Flood relief services provided by the Government are not adquate enough for the optimum survival of the affected victims.As growing Interior Designers, we thought about introducing temporary, compact housing units that would be constructed through pre-fabricated components. We took into consideration

factors like cost, time and replaceablity to come up with solutions for the problem of flood relief. The most important factor for us was to consider using locally found materials like Bamboo, courrugated, sheet and tarpaulin. These materials are conderablly strong and can be assembled soon. These units are designed for a family of four, with sleeping space, that can also be used as sitting space during the day. During the rainy season, the family could also do rain water harvesting thereby having an alternate acess to water.

Pet bottles acting as solar tubes

Each plank of wood is tied to each other using jute strings and is further supported by bamboo sticks for strength.The PET bottles are filled with water and bleach providing 55 watt of light through the solar energy during the day, The rainwater harvesting is done by collecting the water from the roof that flows into the tanks. This solution can provide water for an entire community.This structure is easily replenishable due to the abundance of these materials in the region, and thus will be cost effective.

The main aim of the project was to provide a dynamic, innovative, and pragmatic solution for a software company that develops security shareware applications. The space was to support flexible work styles, a relaxed atmosphere and collaboration among developers while still allowing individuals to work on their own. The office space is designed promoting the idea of security by using block wood pieces for the ceiling and the conference room in this monochromatic space. As one enters the office space,

the conference room forms an important focal point within the space, making it hard to miss. The downlighting from the floor below act as wayfinders visually leading the users around the office. The black parquet flooring at the different spaces indicate huddle spaces or other special space in the office. The overall design allows for maximum flexibility for the user in movement as well as working space.

Beach Cabin This cabin(Img.23) is a compact design that allows the users to expand by the fanning out of the floors. The expansion not only provides space to sleep for two individuals but also have enough space for a table for two. The L shape design for the beach cabin allows for a division of spaces , like the wet areas versus the dry. During the day the plastic sheet could be gathered to one side. DuringThe cabin is powered through solar energy.

3d ModelsYear: Sophomore Individual Work

Cardboard Mini-Library This was created from a single 1m x 2m cardboard sheet. The aim was to create an aesthetic piece that was strong enough to carry the books of an individual sophomore student. The challenge was to use all the pieces of the cardboard sheet without wasting any bits of it. The cutout pieces of the sheet was used for spacing out the sheet.
