Pledge Class 2014

he end of the spring semester ended on a good note last semester as FarmHouse took home several awards at the annual Greek Oscars. Among those awards was being named Honorable Mention for

Outstanding Chapter of the Year in addition to placing 1st in Outstanding New Member Education and our own Jon Seaman being named the Outstanding New Member of the Year. FarmHouse also excelled academically as we obtained a 3.25 GPA and placed 8th out of all fraternities. This summer also saw some highlights as several members attended FarmHouse Conclave which was held at Ohio State University in August.

Now several weeks into the fall semester, FarmHouse is already off to a great start. We have an excellent pledge class of 14 new members that has moved in. In addition, FarmHouse members have already volunteered at the annual Urbana Sweetcorn Festival, had the opportunity to help landscape the recently built U of I Bell Tower. The House has also organized softball and flag football teams to compete in intramurals. Members are also looking forward to the football season and tailgating as Illinois plays the best teams in the Big Ten. This year FarmHouse has also set some challenging goals for itself, namely achieving a 3.3 House GPA and placing in the top 5 out fraternities on campus. Other goals include making our annual philanthropy “Bags for Babes” bigger than ever, increasing our membership to 55+ members, and being named Outstanding Chapter of the Year. Overall, the fall semester has been great so far, and I am confident that FarmHouse and its members will be successful over the next year.

President’s ReportThe

TNew Member Education

The FarmHouse bond of brotherhood is a special thing, as all alumni and active members know and hold dear. As the 2010 school year begins, the new members also begin to learn about this aforementioned brotherhood as they experience the traditions and ceremonies that so many of us have gone through in the past. This year, the new members have already taken part in several community service projects including volunteering at the Urbana Sweet Corn Festival, and helping to landscape the University Bell Tower. Overall, the goal of community service hours set for new members is 25 each for the semester. Other goals include achieving a 3.4 GPA average overall for the pledge class, joining two clubs on campus outside of FarmHouse, and working towards getting to bond with the older members through coffees and brotherhood events. As VP of New Member Education, I am excited and optimistic about our goals, and believe that this class is very intelligent and dedicated, as seen by their hard work through the first three weeks of school. In the near future, the new members will be taking part in activities such as an Etiquette dinner with Delta Zeta sorority, where they will learn the proper techniques of fine dining, and our annual Bags for Babes philanthropy. I can say with confidence that we are in the process of building men!

As the 2010-2011 school year begins, FarmHouse is once again on the lookout for the next group of outstanding young men to invite to become our brothers. These outstanding young men possess such traits as scholarship, leadership, integrity, social, hard-working, and a desire to be a Builder of Men.As Co-VP of Recruitment with Ross Wilken, I am very optimistic about the upcoming year as FarmHouse has a significant opportunity to grow in its membership. At present, we have 43 in-house members with only four seniors graduating in May. What this means is that FarmHouse can

recruit the next group of FarmHouse Men. To help us reach our goal, we would appreciate if you would send us the name and contact information of anyone who would be a good fit for FarmHouse.

easily reach our goal of recruiting enough new members to reach 55 in-house members by Fall 2011.To accomplish this goal, we have already begun to host rush events to meet potential new members. Currently, we have already presented bids to four men who we hope will join for the spring semester and have plans to continue recruiting members to pledge next spring and fall. Additionally, there are plans to host a recruitment workshop this semester to teach chapter members the most effective ways to recruit potential members. We are also trying to utilize our new and improved website that has now been

launched. Furthermore, this year will see the continued development of a new scholarship program for high school seniors attending the University of Illinois. These activities and tools are just some of the many things we have planned to ensure that we recruit only the best young men.I know that both Ross Wilken and I are excited for the opportunity to help
