On behalf of the Farmersville Chamber ofCommerce, it is my pleasure to present to you the2008/2009 Business Directory.
Within this directory you will find area businesseswho are interested in contributing their time and effortsto the community of Farmersville.
Established in the 1900s, the Farmersville Chamber ofCommerce has steadily grown and continues to attract
area businesses interested in being part of our small town atmosphere.With just under 100 members, the chamber offers you choices in products
and services that can help you in your day-to-day lives. As this area continues to grow, the Chamber will grow as well, giving you
access to even more retail and service options within the town. We have a ded-icated membership and board of directors who work closely with the city andthe Farmersville ISD to create a great quality of life that is rare in the worldtoday.
This directory was designed with you in mind, to put all the informationyou need at your fingertips.
It is meant to make you aware of the businesses in your neighborhood thathave a proven, vested interested in guiding the success of this area. Many ofour members are involved in volunteer activities of the Chamber and givetheir time and efforts to the community because they are interested in seeingthe area grow and prosper. Our board of directors gives selflessly to the com-munity, working to promote commerce and develop community-wide eventsthat benefit both families and businesses.

City of Farmersville
Founded in 1849 as a settlement on theJefferson-McKinney Road, Farmersvillewas named for the work done there.
The Yeary family and others fromSugar Hill (located about two milesnortheast of the community) moved toFarmersville after 1854. In 1855, Dr.H.M. Markham, said to be CollinCounty’s earliest physician, had a medicalpractice in Farmersville.
Other community milestones include:1856 – First Methodist Church estab-lished; 1859 – Land donated for publicsquare by William Gotcher; 1860s –School opened; 1865 – First BaptistChurch founded.
The town was officially incorporatedon June 2, 1873, with John S. Rike serv-
ing as the first mayor. Two businessesbegun in Farmersville in the 1880s arestill doing business today – TheFarmersville Times and First Bank.
In the 1930s, Farmersville claimed the“Onion Capital of North Texas” title,shipping more than 1,000 carloads ofonions annually. One of the originalonion sheds has been restored and is acommunity event pavilion near City Park.
Audie Murphy, the most decoratedAmerican hero of WWII who became amovie star after the war, was a resident ofFarmersville before he entered the service.
The community honors Murphy eachyear with “Audie Murphy Day,” an eventrecognizing not only Murphy but all localveterans and service personnel. v

Chamber donates $3,000 for marketing campaign for city
Though the Farmersville Chamber ofCommerce holds many community events tofurther Chamber goals, it has also con-tributed considerable funding to theFarmersville marketing campaign.
The campaign, which involved developinga new logo for the city and advertising in sev-eral different publications, kicked off in2007.
According to Mayor Don Smith, the newlogo represents an important first step in cre-ating a new visual identity for Farmersvillethat will carry the city through the nextdecade.
“As a small community rich with history,Farmersville is looking toward a future ofcommercial growth and residential revitaliza-tion,” said Smith, who is also head of thebranding committee. “A new identity wasnecessary to communicate this new directionand to convey a point of difference betweenFarmersville and other historical small citiesin Texas.”
The goal of the branding committee wasto find a new logo that was unique toFarmersville, according to Adah Leah Wolf,Main Street manager and branding commit-tee member. The newly created logo conveysthe emotional and historic aspects ofFarmersville’s personality while reinforcingthe tagline “Discover a Texas Treasure.” (Thetagline was previously adopted by the CityCouncil in 2006.)
“When you see the new logo, you knowexactly where you are,” Wolf said. “Webelieve the new logo is a strong visual repre-sentation of the town’s heritage of family val-ues and community connections.”
The Farmersville Economic DevelopmentCorp. (4A), the Farmersville CommunityDevelopment Corp. (4B), and the city havealso joined the efforts of the Chamber ofCommerce to help fund the marketing cam-paign.
“Our goal in all of this is to bring in newbusiness and tax revenues – and ultimately,to put Farmersville on the map as the bestplace to live and grow in Collin County,”Smith said.
The total requested marketing budget for2008-’09 is $20,000.
Along with developing a new logo, a goalof the marketing campaign is “to generatepositive, consistent exposure for the city ofFarmersville and the new brand.”
The team plans to do so by raising theawareness about Farmersville, getting peopleto visit the Web site and encouraging peopleto come out to Farmersville to visit.
Advertising in the Texas Events Calendar;Inside Collin County; C&S Media, Inc.’s TheFarmersville Times; The Dallas Morning News;and Star Community Newspapers includingThe McKinney Courier-Gazette will supportthe team’s efforts to promote the city.
The marketing campaign is also utilizingMarketwire and CMT Marketing to distrib-ute press releases and handle marketing con-sulting as well as using Helix Broadband torenovate the city’s Web site.
