MEET DARYL YAMAGUCHI GENERAL MANAGER OF TROPIC FISH HAWAII

Before coming to Tropic Fish Hawaii, Daryl was the General Manager for Pacific Courier Inc. PCI is a cash-in transit company that primarily provides armored and non-armored courier, vault and ATM services for many of the local banks throughout the state of Hawaii. Most recently, his focus there had been to develop the leadership team and guide the strategic organizational infrastructure. “The process and investment in developing strong leaders is a critical component for any business to compete, grow and flourish. We will make leadership development one of our priorities. While we continue building our leadership team, we will be definitely looking at ways to improve on methods and practices,” stated Yamaguchi. In addition to his experience at PCI, he has nearly 30 years of business ownership experience as owner and operator of a natural grocery, food service, and production business as well as a wholesale/distribution, boutique specialty-type Hawaiian “omiyage” business. Daryl is married with two

energetic sons.

TROPIC FISH MAUI NEW FACILITY

CMU & Associates is pleased to announce the new and larger facility of TROPIC FISH MAUI, LLC on the island of Maui. The former facility in Wailuku originally opened on Monday, May 2, 2011 and the new location recently opened in August 2016 to facilitate the growth on the island. The facility, sales and operations staff is located in Kahului, Maui. It houses a processing facility, holding room, full cutting room, refrigeration, freezers and office area. Deliveries are made six days a week to Maui supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, institutions and various other businesses. The state-of -the-art processing facility is the first on the island and processes the entire fresh, whole fish rather than relying on fish filets to be sent to Maui.

This expansion enables the company to improve service to its Maui clientele, provide a larger inventory of product at more competitive prices and guarantees delivery in a timely manner. Clients have a consistent supply of frozen items that are sourced throughout the world and improved access to fresh fish that are brought to various ports throughout the islands. Tropic Fish Maui, LLC operates in full compliance with the United States FDA mandated HACCP (Hazardous Analysis and Critical Control Point) program which emphasizes a proactive approach to food safety. “We are pleased to be investing in the local economy by building a state-of-the-art processing facility and increasing our work force. The people of Maui have been very good to us and we are extremely excited to continue our efforts to bring quality seafood and excellent service throughout the island,” states Charlie Umamoto, Chief Executive Officer.

MEET KOA AGBAYANI GENERAL MANAGER OF TROPIC FISH MAUI

Koa is a former resident of Hilo, Hawaii and a graduate of Kamehameha Schools Hawaii and UH Hilo. He started with the Hilo Fish Company in June 2010 and moved to its affiliated company, Tropic Fish Maui in June 2014. When he is not working six days a week, you can find him in the ocean. Koa loves seafood and being able to provide the best products to his customers. His enthusiasm is infectious, not only to the staff but also his customers.

CERTIFIED ORGANIC PACIFIC CHINOOK (KING) SALMON CMU & Associates will now offer certified organic indigenous Pacific Chinook (King) salmon raised in the calm, clear waters of Clayoquot Sound near Tofino on the West Coast of Vancouver Island in the traditional territory of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation and North America’s only major producer. It is harvested year round so it’s always fresh and available. Our supplier achieved organic certification by following sustainable, responsible farming practices and through continual care for the health and quality of the fish. A third party accredited certifying body regularly audits the operations to verify compliance with the Canadian Organic Aquaculture Standard. Operational planning means minimal time from sea to processing before delivery of fresh product. The salmon is fully integrated from brood stock, hatchery, and sea sites, to harvesting and processing and the hatchery, all farm sites, major feed supplier, and both processing plants are all certified organic. Raised in a low stress, low density environment, no chemical treatment on nets, no antibiotics (since 2001), no GMOs (genetically modified organisms), not treated with pesticides and fed a natural diet with sustainably sourced ingredients. In order to meet organic certification, the fish must have about twice as much room to swim as conventional farm-raised fish. The commitment to animal welfare and stress reduction continues through the harvest process. Copper or other chemical treatments are not used on the nets and rely on sun drying (ultraviolet) and “in place” underwater cleaning using water jets. Fallowing is used to reduce the environmental footprint. Fallowing: leaving one or more sites to “rest”. Of the 6 available farm sites, only 4 are in operation at any given time.

OCEAN RAISED STRIPED BASS This farmed true striped bass has more fat content than wild fish, providing excellent taste and texture. Farm raised in the waters of Baja, California, these true (non-hybrid) striped bass are sustainably farm raised on the leeward side of Isla Todos Santos. The meat is high in omega-3 fatty acids and is used primarily as a cooked whitefish – pan-fry, grill, sauté, bake, poach, deep-fry, etc. but also outstanding served raw sashimi or sushi style or cooked in either filet or whole presentations in any type of ethnic cuisine.

The bass has distinct striped sides with clean lines going all the way across and silver sides with olive-green to dark blue tones towards the topside of the fish. The meat is white with a reddish-pink bloodline. It is expertly harvested and processed and carries a shelf life over two weeks and is available year round.

MEET LIANA SOONG GENERAL MANAGER OF TROPIC FISH KAUAI

Liana Soong joined the Tropic Fish Kauai ‘ohana in May 2017 and quickly transitioned into the GM position. Prior to working with TFK, she was in the food service industry as a chef (graduating with honors from the Culinary Insti-tute of the Pacific, KCC), restaurant owner, Food & Bever-age Director, and Catering Sales Manager. Her passion for food and sales led her to joining the team. In her “spare” time, she serves as the Executive Director of the nonprofit organization Life’s Bridges Hawaii, Inc., is an active member of Na Wahine Hui O Kamehameha, and tries to find time to manage the schedules of her seven children, four grandchildren, and her husband Michael.
