WHAT WE DOWHO WE ARECFA is a statewide organization of people committed to protecting the environment and strengthening community life. Through leadership development and grassroots democratic processes, our mission is to organize and encourage cooperation among farmers, rural, and urban citizens to ensure an essential, prosperous place for family-scale agriculture in our economies and communities.

Preserving Kentucky’s Agriculture Legacy by supporting beginning farmers and connecting resources and partners across the state.

Model programs and curriculums for Veteran and Beginning Farmers.

CFA began in 1985 as a support network for farmers during the credit crisis. In 2000, we led efforts to ensure that half of Tobacco Master Settlement dollars were spent to assist farmers as they transition from tobacco through HB 611. Today we focus on the following areas of farm policy:

Farm Policy

Our members recognize the inherent connection between what happens in the field and what gets to our plates. Currently, we are working on the following projects aimed to increase access to local food and empower communities:

Facilitation of Community Food Systems Assessments in Floyd Co., Berea and Bowling Green.

Research of Federal Food and Nutrition programs to identify gaps in service, inefficiencies in the system and markets for Kentucky farmers and food entrepreneurs.

Market DevelopmentWe are addressing issues connecting farmers to consumers:

Developing resources for farmer’s markets, identifying barriers and developing policies to support institutional buying.

Working collaboratively with multiple agencies to increase use of SNAP, Senior vouchers and WIC FMNP vouchers.
