    The Emergency Food Assistance Program(TEFAP)

    USDA Foods are made available through States to eligible

    organizations for distribution to low-income households or for

    use in preparing meals in a congregate setting.

    Food purchases = $247.5 million

    Administrative funding = $49.4 million

    States administrative funding and food entitlement levels are

    based on a formula which takes into account poverty andunemployment.

    States can also receive bonus foods.

    o Elderly persons (at least 60 years of age)

    Participating State agencies are assigned a caseload

    $175 million appropriation in 2011 supports: 604,931 slots

    $68.28 per slot administrative grants

    2008 Farm Bill USDA Foods Provisions

    Increased the amount of funds available to purchase

    TEFAP Foods (from $140 million in 2008 to $250

    million in 2012)

    Increased the authorizedlevel of funds for TEFAPfrom $60 million to $100 million starting in FY2008

    Altered certain administrative requirements Eliminated statutory preferences for women, infants

    and children in CSFP

    The Farm Bill

    The nutrition title of the Farm Bill covers all of the

    domestic nutrition assistance programs

    administered by FNS.

    Reauthorization provides an important opportunity

    to address issues related to program funding and

    administration.

    In FY 2010, Missouri received over $1.8 billion inassistance through FNS Programs.
