ATTENDANCE: Required class meeting times Summer school covers a large amount of material in a short amount of time. Regular attendance is required to meet state and FPS requirements. Students are expected to attend all class meetings and to participate in all activities required by curriculum/teacher. Students must be present for the full class on the last day of the semester.
Virtual Academy VA SS (Daily Monday through Friday Required Zoom Meeting @ 12:30—2:00)
Hybrid On-Campus SS (Monday through Thursday on-campus required meeting @ 8:30—11:00)
Physical Education SS (Monday through Thursday for hybrid on-campus periods A & B and for VA)
STIC Time(s) = Student + Teacher Intervention & Collaboration Time STIC times are built into the daily/semester schedule; students can access the teacher for help/collaboration or the teacher may direct/set appointments for a student or group of students. * STIC open times with no specific teacher-directed appointment aren’t considered to be required class meeting times. * STIC appointments directed by the teacher are considered to be required class meeting times.
ATTENDANCE: Expectations for Academic Classes Since life sometimes presents unforeseen obstacles, students are permitted to miss a maximum of two scheduled class meetings and are required to complete the make-up as directed by the teacher. BE ON TIME! All tardies exceeding 5 minutes will be rounded up to the next half hour. Tardy time
will count towards the two class meetings absence maximum. Students are allowed up to 3 tardies per semester. On the 4th tardy, the student will be dropped
from the course and receive a withdraw/fail. If a student exceeds the two-class meeting absence maximum, the student will be dropped from
the course and will receive a withdraw/fail.
ATTENDANCE: Expectations for Physical Education Classes All SS Phy-ed courses are scheduled to meet Monday—Thursday through both academic semesters with 28 class meetings and 6 virtual Fridays. Since life sometimes presents unforeseen obstacles, students are permitted to miss a maximum of four scheduled class meetings and are required to com-plete the make-up as directed by the teacher. BE ON TIME! All tardies exceeding 5 minutes will be rounded up to the next half hour. Tardy time
will count towards the four-class meetings absence maximum. Students are allowed up to 5 tardies. On the 6th tardy, the student will be dropped from the PE
course and will receive a withdraw/fail. If a student exceeds the four-class meetings absence maximum, the student will be dropped from
the PE course and will receive a withdraw/fail.
ATTENDANCE: Absence Reporting Absences can be reported directly to the teacher by parent email or phone call. Please include the
student in the email so the teacher can direct necessary make-up to the student. Absences can be reported to summer school attendance @ 701-446-2028
The summer school office will send a daily Black Board call regarding student attendance.
ATTENDANCE: CLOSED CAMPUS Once students arrive, students will not be allowed to leave the building without permission from ad-ministration. If a student leaves the building without permission, he/she will be asked to leave for the day and that time will count in the maximum allowable absence time. STUDENT BEHAVIOR Summer school differs markedly from the regular school year in that participation of students is en-tirely voluntary. Any student, who, through tardiness, absenteeism, poor work habits or classroom disturbance, distracts from the summer school experience instead of adding to it, will be dropped from the course and be sent home. We are all here by choice.

PARKING at South HS All students who drive are to park in the North & South parking lots only. Bicycles are to be parked in the bike racks and locked at the North or South entrances.
DRESS The Fargo School District takes pride in the appearance of our students. Student dress reflects the quality of school, conduct, and work. The school district is responsible for seeing that student attire does not interfere with the health or safety of any student, that student attire does not contribute to a hostile or intimidating atmosphere for any student, and that dress code enforcement does not rein-force or increase marginalization or oppression of any protected group. Daily dress expectations: • Clothing with opaque fabric that covers the student’s chest, sides of body, midriff, and their entire
undergarments must be worn. • Pants/Jeans or the equivalent (i.e., skirt, sweatpants, leggings, dress, or shorts) long enough to
cover the student’s private areas must be worn. • Pants/Jeans or the equivalent should be secured not to reveal undergarments.
• Shoes must be worn.
• Clothing advertising or promoting the use of drugs, alcohol, tobacco, drug paraphernalia, guns, weapons or depiction of violence may not be worn. • Vulgar clothing of any kind may not be worn.
• Vulgar is defined as pictures, images, words, silhouettes of individuals, or sayings that depict
sexually suggestive expressions or actions, profanity, obscenity, drugs, alcohol, or tobacco, or which degrade the integrity of individual groups. • Hats, hoods, or head coverings may not be worn in the building except for a religious purpose, documented medical need, or with special approval by the administrator for special school events/celebrations/circumstance.
FOOD AND DRINK Clear liquid or water is allowed in the classrooms or bathrooms. This includes bottles that have been opened and resealed, as well as those that have not yet been opened. Food and drink items are re-stricted to the commons and courtyard. Help custodians maintain a clean campus. Be respectful. Be responsible.
CELL PHONES AND ELECTRONIC DEVICES These devices are not to be used in the classrooms, computer labs, or during driving and/or highway safety observation time, except at the direction of the teacher.

HS CREDIT COURSE DESCRIPTIONS p.2
Highway Safety Class & Behind the Wheel (1/2 Credit)
A STUDENT MUST BE 14 YEARS OLD PRIOR TO THE START DATE OF CLASS!
A permit is strongly recommended when driving with our instructors, but not mandatory.
Highway Safety Class is a classroom experience that comprehensively addresses the laws and
responsibilities of being a safe, courteous driver. Highway safety class follows the summer
school semester daily schedule.
Behind the wheel Instruction includes driving and observation experiences in the city, on high-ways, and on the interstate. Behind-the-Wheel driving time occurs outside the scheduled class time and must be scheduled with the instructor. Students must set up 6 hours of drive time and 6 hours of observation time before or after class. Students must be passing the highway safety classroom portion to be able to do the behind the wheel portion. • This course will use dash-cam video devices. By registering for this course, you acknowledge
that recordings may be used in classroom instruction.
Students are not allowed to use cell phones or other personal electronic devices during drive
time, observation time, and class time.
Getting a Driver’s License:
A student must successfully complete (pass) both the Highway Safety Classroom portion and Be-
hind the Wheel to get the North Dakota Education Student Completion Certificate, which is
required for someone age 16 or under to receive a driver’s license in ND. Students will receive
their certificate on the last day of class if they pass all areas.
KEEP THESE DOCUMENTS IN A SECURE PLACE (You’ll need them later.)
Please check out the North Dakota Department of Transportation for additional information
about driver’s license requirements. Some of the license requirements:
A. Behind the Wheel and Highway Safety are not required after 16 years old.
B. A permit is needed regardless of age if the student has not been licensed.
C. You must have a permit a minimum of 1 year before taking the driving test.
D. The minimum age to get a permit is 14.
E. Until age 16, you must have a permit to practice driving with a parent or other licensed
driver. Parents and other drivers MUST have had a driver’s license for at least 3 years
and be at least 18 years old.
New to ND Highway Safety Programs:
North Dakota State Statute 39-25 and Administrative Rule 37-13 authorizes the North Dakota
Department of Transportation to waive the Class D road test for students who successfully com-
plete the required behind the wheel and classroom training. The student demonstrates all driv-
ing competencies. FPS SS Highway Safety is applying the statute and rule to our program and
will be appropriately issuing Road Test Waivers for students who meet criterion.

Be a resident of North Dakota

It is further understood that the student will assume all costs of fees and/or supplies and that no en-
cumbrances of any kind will be placed on the home school district of said student.
